WANTED: 68-72 Daily Driver
Don't we all?
I'm looking for a vintage Oldsmobile to use as a daily driver. I'd like a 68-72 Cutlass/S/Supreme/F-85. I prefer the fastback body style over the notchback, and I'd like to steer clear of convertibles. Absolutely LOVE post coupes. A little rust is fine, but nothing structural. I'm looking for something with a very clean interior that's fit for daily driver duties (read: very mechanically sound, heat, a/c, radio, gauges and lights work, etc). Highway gearing a plus: 2:56, 3.08 or 3:23 preferred. I don't mind working on something, but I need to go outside and turn the key and not worry about missing a day of work. Please let me know what you have available. I'm in NY on Long Island. My budget would ideally be in the $3500 range, but I'll spend up to $5,000 on the right car. Thanks!
Chris
I want your great grandma's Olds that she drove to church on Sunday and the grocery store on Monday.

I know it's a pretty ambitious list of demands, but it's worth trying, right? I don't think $5k is insulting to someone with a nice, clean f-85 or Cutlass with some rust, do you? Thanks for the well wishes.
A little higher than you wanted to go but it has been out there for a while. maybe the guy comes down a bit.

JMO but your price range is aggressive for what you want.

I agree that my price range is a little light for what I'm looking for, but I'm hopeful. I think it's a function of where we live. I see you're a Long Islander also. Clean cars demand a premium up here. I'm looking at the culprit-- an inch of crusty white salt on my street right now.
My mother drove a 1965 98 convertible, and traded it on a '68 Cutlass....and hated it!
She wound up trading that for a new '72 98, which was a POS....all kinds of problems with radiator, transmission, electrical, carburetor.....kept on going on and on!
I'm selling my 1968 Olds 98 455 but I'm looking for a bit more than you want to spend.
I've just had all the front suspension overhauled, rear springs replaced with normal height.
New battery, great paintwork, interior is great.
I only bought his recently and now my other car, the Jaguar has broken down and I need to sell the Olds to get some money together.
Let me know if interested and I'll send you some pics
Regards
Chas

If you consider stretching your Olds imagination a little, here's a '79 in CT....factory 5-speed?!?

A little '73 project...

A '71 Supreme with little info

Not "old" or an Olds but I'd be all over this if I were in the market...

Thanks for the offers and links guys! Chas, your car sounds nice, but I've got my heart set on a 68-72 Cutlass daily. Oldsman, A few of those are too new for my tastes, and the 71 "Cutless" scares the hell out of me if the person selling it can't even spell it correctly. I'll keep browsing the classifieds ads and Craigslist. Thanks again!

I checked the one in Copaigue . Bucket seat column shift blue interior car. Interior was in decent shape. Trunk floor, qtrs, rockers and bottom of fenders gone.....the guy says he put a lot in it mechanically. By the way, no console....also on an interesting note, the car is either a very early '71 or had a major front end collision, as it had bumpless '70 fenders on it.....
