Looking for a Rallye 350
Looking for a Rallye 350
Hello Everyone,
I am still looking for Rallye 350. Ideally, I want an un-restored, original post model with NO options and a stick (manual trans.). I am somewhat flexible on my search and would consider a hardtop and maybe an automatic. I don't want to restore or rebuild one; I am finishing up the frame-off on my '72 442 and really don't want another project car. I am not real concerned about matching numbers as much as finding a RUST-FREE car. If a restored car is available, and I like the options (or hopefully lack of) and the price, I can act right away. Please contact me here, or email--dave@andersonautomotive.com, or phone -- 410-206-9427.
Thanks, Dave.

Hendrick had this one. It was a beauty in a bare bones F-85 way.
Sorry it sold but maybe they can tell you where it went & you could wrangle a deal with the new owner.
Good luck with the search.

Curious
May I ask what does this have to do with a Rallye 350?
another one
Here is one in Vegas. Some mods from stock but the basic premis of what you are looking for is here.

Asking is $24,500.00. Clearly not going to get it.
Car has been on eBay half a dozne times with buy it now of $19,900. A couple of weeks before Xmas they had it listed with a BIN of $17,900.
If you can look past the aftermarket parts & the recovered front seat this one might be a good driver.

The car in this link has #8 heads; clearly not original.

#8
[QUOTE=ROCKETMAN269V;513821]
True....but this does not mean the engine is not original rather jut that the heads are not. There are many #6 heads in captivity that can easily be swapped for this later #8s. If the engine is not original that hurts the value but not the enjoyment.
No matter....the car is sold. But it certainly is a killer Rallye 350.

I have talked to owner of the car in the last post. In fact, I have many pictures and emails back and forth; and phone calls, too. That car is extremely rare, and pretty close to what I'm looking for ,BUT IMO, isn't preserved well enough for me. I guess my idea of a survivor isn't the same as the sellers. I'm not knocking the guy's car, but I really want a car that isn't that much of a project to get it into the condition rhat I like.
I've never heard that one! If that is true, someone PLEASE find the location!!!!
That rumor sounds a little weird to me. I know GM has re-distributed unsold cars to other dealer's inventory, but I haven't heard of The General taking them back and stashing them.
Can you imagine what a "Brand New" 1970 Rallye 350 would fetch today????
And if it IS true, why weren't they sold when GM sold off the Heritage Collection to raise funds in the "dark" time a couple of years ago? Or when the muscle market peaked several years ago?
Any thoughts or information here?????????????????????????????????????????????? ??

From the article
"According to those in the know, very few Rallye 350s were actually ordered by customers, because so little was known about them. That lack of knowledge may have contributed to the lukewarm reception these cars received upon arrival at dealerships. Reportedly, many remained unsold into the 1971 model year. One expert told us he remembers "a sea of bright yellow" brand-new, unsold Rallye 350s at an East Coast storage facility."

Sal, I don't think John Ebbs has a "sea of yellow"! He might have a Rallye or two, but I doubt if he has any in "like new" condition. In fact, several years ago, he told me about a "close-to-perfect" Rallye in Long Island that kinda was for sale---I went;I saw:I came home empty.
Also, I talked to Steve the other day and told him to say "Hi" to you for me.
And I vaguely remember that article in HMM, but I certainly know of NO EAST COAST STORAGE FACILITY and I LIVE ON THE EAST COAST!!! And NONE of my Oldsmobile buddies know of such a facility.
SOMEBODY FIND IT IF IT DOES EXIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that if there was a storage facility, it was back when the cars were new and unsold, I would think that eventually they were sold off and not stashed by GM for the last 40 years. It seems just to have turned into an urban myth.
Nice
Dave here is the car you have been waiting for! Better go get it before I do!

This seller sounds like a collector of all things Olds. I wonder if it was his 1968 HO in Hemmings Muscle Machines a few issues ago?

Sure looks like an 8 in the photo to me.
Outstanding car. I like it.
If only Rallye 350s had come with chrome bumpers and ss1 rims they would look so much better. The all yellow wheels and bumpers just goes too far.

The W31 in Plainwell Mi.? Nice car, I had a look at it for a minute last year at the spring dust off @ the Gilmore Car museum, talked to the owner as he was driving through, I told my buddy that it didn't look like he was going to show it, so I stepped out and flagged him, and talked for a couple of minutes. he said that he has owned a couple of W30's over the years and that this was quicker, take that as you will.

Myth or fact? I'll keep my eyes peeled

Those are the smog heads
Makes you wonder what else is not correct as he puts it
