Looking to Buy 1972 Cutlass Convertible with Factory 442 Options

Looking to buy a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible with factory 442 option package. Car must have factory air conditioning and expel cold air. Also, bucket seats, floor console, and floor shifter. The heavier optioned, the more attractive to buy. W-25 outside air induction hood. Power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows, power door locks, and cruise control. Engine 350 cubic inch, TH 350 transmission, and sway bars and boxed control arms. Factory window sticker and/or build sheet, and Protect-O-Plate also helpful. Car is to be a straight car, clean, and ready to drive. I am not, however, looking for a trailer queen. I want to drive this car.

Acceptable colors: 1)Twilightblue/Royal Blue code 28 with white top and interior. ( I missed this car by about 1/2 hour in Florida)
2) White with blue top and interior.
3) Triple black, or contrasting interior or top.

I am willing to pay up to $35,000 for the right car with the right documentation. Please private message me with picture and description of your car. Thank you.

There's one reply, now two.

That's a very specific list, and a good sum to pay for such a car.

I have to ask why only 72, why 350, why 442, as I'm sure you know in 72 442 was a tape stripe option, therefore any 72 442 is harder to prove as legit, you could easily find a 350 powered 72 vert add 442 options to it and get the same thing.

I don't know anything about jpms car I would assume for the price it was a well documented car in near perfect condition!

68-71 442s were a seperate model that got a big block olds engine and suspension upgrades.

72 442s were an option box that added stripes and emblems to a cutlass. You could get a 350 or 455 engine

All 442 upgrades are bolt ons to any cutlass so if you want a 350 powered car you could find one of any year 68-72 and add the 442 items you wanted.

If your set on a 350 powered 442 those are a 1 year only car

You know exactly what you want... gotta at least admire the detail. But I'm with RetroRanger, why the requirement on a 350 engine?

Joffrol,

My reasoning is that I want the car to be original. Original engine, transmission, and matching numbers. I concluded the greatest probability of achieving this goal is to buy a car which had the greatest quantity of engines and transmissions combinations manufactured in 1972, therefore the greatest probability of finding one in 2016. That is my reasoning. I didn't see anyone on the site questioning Jp Motors and the beautiful car they just sold. And that car had a 350 engine!! However, I am flexible. Do you know someone selling , or do you have a matching numbers 455 CI for sale that is the original engine to the 1972 Cutlass convertible. It really makes no difference. I look forward to receiving pictures of the car that you may have or know someone that has one for sale. Please remember: the car must be a convertible, have automatic transmission, and factory air conditioning that works. I look forward to doing business. Thanks again, Twilightblue28A

Fair enough. I did know where a U-code 72 442 blue (not sure on exact code) with AC might still be, but its not a convertible. Good luck on the search. That'll be exciting when you find one.

My car's probably not as nice or desirable as the one you describe, but there's no way I'd sell it for as little as $35K.

Best of luck, though.

Have a Cutlass you might like

I have a '72 Cutlass "U" Code with original 455, TH400, and 3.23 rearend. Black 2dr sport coupe, black interior, OAI hood. Car was totally restored about 4 yrs ago. Not a trailer queen but much better than average. Pic attached. Let me know if interested. Price is a more than you stated you would pay but trust me, this car is a jewel.

When I read the title "Looking to Buy 1972 Cutlass Convertible with Factory 442 Options", I infer that you want a Cutlass Supreme with some options typical with the 4-4-2, such as suspension and perhaps a hi-po engine.

I think you'll get more hits if you change the title to "Looking for documented 1972 4-4-2 convertible."

Can you live with a clone? Here's what would make a nice driver on my local Craigslist (Medford Oregon)for $21,900. Its a 1971 but you could change the tail lights & grill to make it look like a 1972. It also has a 403 instead of a 350. Wrong color, but you could always change that. John

Sorry, I'm having trouble getting the rest of the pictures to come out larger. Go to the ad to see black bucket seats with console/floor shift.

Good taste. I'm with you. I like the 350 and it's getting hard to find them with the original drive train. I bought my W29 442 surviver from the original owner in 2006 and he made me promis him not to alter it in anyway.
