Looking for a 1970 442, W30, Rallye 350, W31, or Converbile
Hello,
I am new to the board and have been away from the car scene since I sold my 1970 442 convertbile back on 2001, which I still regret every day. I am looking for a new restoration project and was looking for a 70 442, 70 convertilble, W30, W31, or Rallye 350. The car must have a numbers matching motor, transmission (automatics only), and be in fairly solid condition.

I am located in Hopedale MA. about 45 minutes outside of Boston. I don't mind if the car is in a different city or state, as I have purchased a couple of cars like this in the past. The picture in your signature really brings back memories, as my first car was a 68 442 convertible. I only wish I new back in 82 how valuable these cars would be. I use to race mine on the weekends and in the 3 years I owned it I replaced 2 engines, the transmission, and the rear axle. The car ended up hitting a jersey barrier and was totaled by the insurance company

OK, I'll bite.
How about a Rallye 350 Post automatic with a bench seat.
Fairly clean car with minimal rust. Clean trunk, original engine/drivetrain.
Complete, original except carb. May have original paint from doors back. The front fender have been replaced with dimple fenders. Bumpers are straight and original.
This is a nice car to start with if you like Rallyes!

I had been exchanging emails with the guy thursday, was out of town friday and the car was sold when I check my email on saturday. I was depressed for about a week.

I had a friend in highschool who had one. His dad gave it to him for his 16th birthday (we're talking 1983). The car was awesome but like me he had no idea that 30 years ago the car would be worth so much

I'm the third owner of my Pace car and I've owned it for over 20 years. I suspect that Pace car that sold on ebay was posted at least 3 times, in fact I started a thread of What do you think it will bring? It stop just short of $10,000 twice that I saw without reaching reserve.
As to the bucket seats in a Rallye, if mine had them I wouldn't sell it. I'm 6'4" and my wife 5'1", all my cars except the Rallye are bucket seats and I own over 20.

Yes - this was the car. I missed the 1st auction but caught it the second time it was listed. The auction was for 8 days and he ended it after 3. It looked like a pretty solid foundation for a restoration

I have been thinking about selling my car but its not original like you are looking for and isn't a project. It is a '70 Cutlass convertible with a '69 442 drive train. Engine & Turbo 400 have been rebuilt. It also has a 3.23 Typo O ltd slip with W27 cover. Car features buckets & console, boxed rear control arms with sway bar, cut out rear bumper and factory OAI hood retored by Troy Thornton with new metal frame. When car was painted rear quarters were replaced and car is very clean underneath. Engine has stock cam but also has Performer intake, Edelbrock 1910 Quadrajet & Badd Andy polished M/T Valve covers. It also has 15x7 & 15x8 polished Torq Thrusts with metal caps. Top works well and has no rips and a glass back window but does have some minor stains. Dash is OK shape with a crack on the top but isn't bad. Previous owner cut dash for DIN style radio. I have the stock intake & valve covers if you'd want them. Its not a matching #'s car but it is anice looking car that drives well & can be put on the road & enjoyed from Day 1. PM me if you'd be interested.

Droptopron - the car sounds very nice - however I am really looking for a numbers matching car that I can finish myself. One of my old convertibles was on sale a few months ago on 442.com and I was tempted to buy it but wanted something I could work on

That's the problem with buying a car that has already been done - you never know what's underneath. My 442 convertible looked really great when I bought, it had 71 bumpers, ram air hood, and was triple black. I was 23 years old and had no clue of the difference. I learned quick and tore it down, replaced the quarters, floor, and put it back to the original color inside and out..

I love the bright blue '70 interiors and am well-known as a Viking Blue fan, so I really like the documented '70 442 ragtop for sale in this link quite a bit. I'd have to sell my '70 SX ragtop first though if I were to pursue it. Just figured I'd share the link.

Still looking... However, I am expaning my search to include 1968 and 1971 442 convertibles. I was looking at a 72 442 convertible on ebay last week - however I can't seem to find a decent source for determining the non 455 442's that year.

It has to have paperwork showing the W29 (442) option. All V8's were avaliable in 1972 on the 442, so if it does not have any paperwork showing W29, then there is no way to prove that it is a 442.

Well it looks like the car I wanted is no longer for sale. The car was an older restoration, and the seller decided to finish it again, so he could sell it for more money, which is completely understandable. If any of you have any other leads please pass them along.
