Help on buying a 69 Cutlass Supeme
A good friend in NJ is selling his 69 Supreme. I am in CA, it ahs 35 K in mileage and is fully drivable. It doe not have working AC. He is asking $15000, which seems reasonable. Not rust, no accidents. what are the items I should look for. ie, matching VIn to engine? etc. also any comments and your ideas/recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thnaks in advance
BTW I plan to sell my 1996 Impala for this one

If it was originally a car from the Northeast I'd pass. $15k is a lot of money for a Cutlass Supreme. I can guarantee that you can find a lot cleaner car, for the same money, in California.

Also, if you're from Cali, you probably can't fully grasp the havoc wreaked by rust in the Northeast, even on a low-mileage car.
As was said, the car you describe could be in a very wide range of conditions, from "sitting under a tree for 30 years" to "never driven in the rain or in the winter, and always parked in a heated garage under a cover."

+1. Low-Mileage Cutlii come up from time to time, and if they're not desirable hot-rod models, they generally don't approach those price levels.

what part of NJ? I'm there 2-3 times a week for work, I have a 69 and could possibly take a look for you if it is close.
what strikes me odd about your post is that the seller is a good friend.. so wouldn't he give you a straight story on matching numbers etc? Also $15k is probably top of the price range for a supreme.
