78 Olds Omega (cali car)

Not mine, but came across it whilst searching for other stuff. Very pretty low mileage california car. Not my cup 'o tea, but the price seems really cheap for what it appears to be.

XB17 (base model hatchback) is the rarest bodystyle Omega. Must be one of very few with buckets & console AND a 350 (California-only engine option). I don't recall if was an Olds or Chevy. Probably Chevy since the rest of the country could only get a 305 Chevy in '78.

When I ordered my 78 SX hatchback, I wanted a 260 but it was discontinued after 77. I took the Buick V6 rather than buy an Olds with Chebby power.

Unfortunately, the 260 was the only Olds motor available in the Omega that year. Would have made the swap to a 455 so much easier...

Only cars 74 and younger are smog exempt lot of nice cars here are sent back east where they don't have to smog them. Makes being a car guy hard at times.

That was my thinking. Unfortunately for me, I wanted a new 78. When I ordered it in early September 77 I was informed by the dealer that my only engine choices were the Buick V6 or a 305 Chevy. No Olds engines were offered for the '78 X-body, even though the 260 continued on in the A and B-body cars. Some kind of a corporate decision to streamline operations, since Omegas were only built at assembly plants operated by other divisions. Mine came out of the Buick plant in Ypsilanti, MI.

I like the Hatch versions of that car, growing up my neighbor had a Nova hatch. It was red. I don't know what year it was

That is true, almost all of them came out with the V6 in them. I have had two verison of the three omegas. The regular 2 dr and the Sx model (not the hatchback.) But out of the 4 cars I have owned only one of them came with the 260 V-8 in it. I know one thing though I ran that little 260 V-8 and it never let me down. Now its bigger and better a 455 V-8
