Recently purchased this beauty! 75,000 Original miles. Rust Free Arizona car.. garaged. Paint is still shiny and nice.. not show quality.. but cruiser condition. Runs very good. Was a donated vehicle for charity foundation.. had to buy it before the other guy that was going to Donk it out. 99% of everything on the car is functional. Owners manual is there, along with key code for wheel locks. It is getting harder and harder to find original unmolested 98's like this.... Asking $2400.

I will be honest with you.. my first car was an '84 Delta 88... and when I got in this and drove it home.. man I missed my first car. I really want to keep it.. but it is just bad timing.. and I know I will regret it down the road.

Had time to really look it over... this car is really nice. Everything seems to work other than the drivers remote mirror and the A/C is not quite cold enough. Shifts great, runs great, all windows work, cruise works, etc... Original owners manual is there along with the code cards for the paint and wheel locks!

 

What year is this? '83? '84? I think it's around in there, but I don't know this era well enough to tell the years apart at a glance.

 

Did you buy it from a charity?

 

Jaunty, Based on the front hood ornament and wheel center emblems, its an 84. That's really the only noticeable things that was different between 83 and 84. Is your CC looking for a stablemate? That Regency looks like a nice companion......

This model is the Regency. The Top model is the Regency Brougham. Both are very nice cars. Regency Brougham had upgraded interior fabrics, and the B pillar Opera light instead of the one on the sail panel. Here's a picture of my 83 Regency Brougham for comparison. As it sits in this picture, it had 300,000 on it and was still going strong. Interior color was blue.

I believe too that the 84's had orange turn signal lenses, while the 83's had the orange/clear just like the Delta 88's. I remember reading that somewhere.

Good luck selling it 65az...wish I could buy another car, I'd love to get it! I'm only down in Tucson too My CC is about all I can handle at this point...lol.

Sigh, you would be right about that. I sold it in 2003 when I bought the 1995 Regency Elite. Sometimes I think I did a bad thing by not just taking out the 307 and putting in a 350 or 455, they probably would have bolted right up to the 200R4 (which had new sun gear, planetaries and clutches). As you can see in the photo, the body/glass and trim were all in perfect shape. It also had a posi rear end. That 83 had a really nice ride and the style was very elegant. Glad I kept that picture, it brings back fond memories, it was also our wedding car.

You are probably right about the turn signal lenses, I never really looked that close at them.

 

i did the charity auction car flipping game back in the 90's.i quit when they changed the tax deduction structure from book value to sale price at auction.

from my experience,i would be wary of any car donated to a charity auction.

most of these cars have a serious problems you dont know about until you drive it 50 miles,then you're in for a serious surprise.

i notice this car doesnt even have tags.

was it towed home?

craigslist is full of these cars.

 

First of all, don't judge my buying experience based on yours.. and furthermore try to sabotage me trying to sell it. I have bought and sold numerous vehilces for me, friends, family and to make money. I know what to look for when purchasing a car. Yes... I drove it home, yes, it is in my name, I just took it to palm springs and back. Runs great, drives great, and shifts great. The last owners info was still in the glovebox when I purchased it, and yes, I contacted them before I bought it. So please in the future do not chime in on someone elses ad stating you know facts and running down my vehicle when clearly you have no clue what the hell you are talking about.

Well, even if it is going to Europe, at least it didn't get donked. That would have been a sad fate for a car that nice. I sure would like to find a 77-84 coupe in comparable condition. Those years Ninety Eight coupes are some of the most elegant Oldsmobiles ever made.

I know the car youre talking about. It's just about 3 hours south of me. It is a gorgeous car. It did cause me to do some serious thinking, and it's been price reduced a few times now. If I was going to buy that car, I'd also probably look at dropping in a 350 or a 403. I've heard there are lower end problems with the 403s but don't know what they are. Not sure, but a 455 should bolt up ok too. There's a few of those floating around that I could do a rebuild on. I think its a straight bolt in to a 200R4. The 307 in that big car is really underwhelming. It just needs a lot more power. My 83 also has posi 2:93 rear end and that helped get it going ok. Worked out pretty decent with mileage too especially with that tranny overdrive gear.

I agree the bigger engine would be a benefit. I think these weighed similar to the Custom Cruisers...and mine was a slug for sure...lol.

Allan you would look good behind the wheel of that car. Swapping in a 455 wouldn't be no big deal the G-body guys do it all the time. You would have to have the 200R4 beefed up for the 455 monster. It is a real clean and sharp car.

 

Now that you have mentioned it, there was a '82 or 3 Regency on e-bay a couple of years ago with 3500 km on it, red- lady owner/driver $10,000, I don't think it sold... from Calgary or Edmonton...I really liked driving my '84 Regency, and it was a lot better than the Aurora in the snow!!

 

Unfortunately I do not know the cost. They have a shop in California so they picked up the car on a flatbed trailer and took it back to Cali...

Yeah, but you have to be careful about that too. If you sell a specified number of cars within a specified time limit from your house I think you would become classified as a car dealer. Then they could come after you for taxes and stuff. Glad you could help this Olds stay alive instead of going to the boneyard.

 

I really like that interior colour combo on that car. Mine is the maroon like the white car.

 

There is a 78 98 sedan for sale in Lawton, OK. I saw it this morning on my way to work. I should stop by sometime and check it out. It is white.

 

How much does one of these weigh? Is the 78 to 84 98's "B" bodies or "C" bodies?

 

77-84 98's are c bodies.....pretty much the same thing as a b body frame, but a little longer in the middle.

They weigh in at about 3750

 

I checked out this 78 98. It was thrashed. I didn't call the number to see how much he wanted for it. It might be worth it if someone wanted the 403, but one from a salvage yard would probably be cheaper.

 

So suspension and everything is mechainally the same (except for the drivershaft since the body's longer)

I don't think so. Here's door sticker from a 1983 regency. It says the car is over 5000 lbs. I think you're getting them mixed up with the lighter front wheel drive cars.
