I assume it had a repaint from looking at the bottom side of the hood. Looks like it is gold on the bottom side. Still a really nice car but if I were a buyer I would want to know more than listed. Especially about the paint. Maybe it is just an odd reflection but it sure looks gold on the bottom. It does appear very original though. Makes me wish I still had my 72 W-30 low mile car.

Yep, you can fix compression. Harder to get rid of the tooth.
Why the 1971 442 is better than the 1970 442.
No tooth on the hood!
1971 uses the GM corporate 10 bolt rear which has much more aftermarket support than the "O-type" rear.
1971 and up 4 speed Muncies are upgraded to 26 spline input and 32 spline T-400 output shaft.
1971 was the only year the M-22 transmission option was available.
Lower water pump hose redesigned so it doesn't hit idler arm. (Combined with water pump outlet and radiator inlet sizes changed)
The in-line metering (hold off) valve mounted under the master cylinder is removed. True proportioning valve used.
Radiator support holds tools/nuts/bolts better. It's a flatter surface with recesses that prevent tools from rolling.
You don't have to hold the door handle push buttons to lock the doors.
Where the 1970 wins.
Compression ratio is higher in 70 then it is in 71. However by now most engines have been rebuilt and this can be addressed if wanted.
1970 seen as the high water mark of the 1970-72 cars.
3.91 ratio available as factory installed option.
W-27 rear available.

Great car.
For me it's 72 because of the X code. But you brought up great points. I understand why the 70 gets the majority of the shine, but its disproportionate when you dig into all 3 years.
Anyway, this beauty is up to 70k with 8 hours to go. I'm thinking it goes over 90k.

The interest rate on the transaction is listed at 11.96...ouch! For me, I love all 70-72 442's (I have owned all three yrs, but, the market dictates which year is the King and clearly that is 1970). Of course we all can have our personal favorites.
