That's an interesting car, can't say I remember that pacing the 500. This would've been the year after the Fiero, no?

I had the same tire (different size) on my '69 Toro.

These were festival cars. Rarely seen but were used around the city and track grounds.

Gotcha, that explains a lot, and vindicates my memory.

Between 1983 and 86, Hess and Eisenhardt/Car Craft converted about 814 of these cars (exact numbers vary). There were 33 of the 1985 Festival cars made. They were called Princess cars because they carried the festival princesses.

1985 Princess Pace car. I worked the Flag Lot behind the tower at the IMS where the pace cars parked when at Indy for the month of May. I remember when about 35 of these showed up for Pole Day. Only two had a V6 the others were the base 4 cylinders that are basically the same variation still used today like in the modern Encore.
Disney was the theme of the 500 Festival that year and Mickey rolled in one for the parade. Mostly used for the 33 Princesses that year. Titled as hardtops. From the assembly line they went to the coachbuilder reinforced the frame and chopped the top. The convertible top assembly and quarter windows with mechanisms are from Chrysler and fit perfect.
I have one to restore with not much work needed. My next project. Love them Pace Cars. They were a different manufacturer every year back when I worked there; then the Vettes took over.
