1968 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible, a classic American muscle car. This car is in very good condition – looks and drives great. The car is powered by a number matching 400 ci engine (325 HP) and TH400 automatic transmission. It is one of only 5142 convertible 442’s produced in 1968; the original Protecto-Plate will be provided. The car retains its original configuration including the original Saffron yellow exterior color with a black convertible top (Y-2 code) the interior is black with vinyl bucket seats. The seat covers, and door panels have recently been updated. Purchased locally in 2006 from a private owner with 139,786 miles showing on the title. The prior owner had the engine guide vanes replaced by a repair shop in Columbus. Engine otherwise was in great shape (over-boring was not required), rebuilt with factory rebuild kit.
Since the purchase it been stored for a period and restored over the years resulting in only ~141,200 miles currently showing. The engine, engine bay, carburetor, transmission, interior and trunk were refreshed from 2014–2017. During the engine refresh, the engine was torn down and inspected to shop limits, replaced all gaskets and seals, plugs and wires, fluids and filters, cooling lines and brake lines. The engine compression checked good and within tolerance. The transmission was serviced and all bushings and seals were replaced. During this period with the engine and transmission removed, the engine, transmission and engine bay were thoroughly cleaned and repainted to the same, original factory colors. New upgrades/replacements include (but not limited to): front disc brakes, stainless exhaust, analog gage set, brake lines, fuel pump, solid state ignition, and master cylinder. The car features power brakes and steering, bucket seats, a black convertible top with glass window and boot cover which are in good shape. The chrome bumpers are in impeccable condition. Also of note, the car features the original steering wheel, rims, trumpet exhaust tips, AM/FM radio and air filter housing. Also featured is the original Factory AC system (not currently charged/working).
This car would be a great investment or simply a driver to enjoy. Car is located in north suburb of Cincinnati. Additional pictures of the engine and engine bay refresh are available. Price is $35,500

Reason: More pictures and price change
Yep correct its an American Muscle car. A mighty fine one too.
What else? Are you showing off your ride? Is it for-sale?
Love the Saffron. I had a Saffron Pearl 68 442 vert.

Man wants 44 and change for the sale. More pics would help.
Yes it is for sale. More pictures are coming. I finally figured out the site doesn't like iPhone pics (.HEIC file extension). I've found a converter and will upload more pics soon.
In reading this it appears the engine wasn’t rebuilt, just seals and gaskets. Is that correct? No new pistons, rings, bearings, balanced, valve job etc?

With 139K on it, I'm sure the engine must have been rebuilt, no?
I was able to connect with the prior owner (from 16 years ago). He did confirm that there was a rebuild in ~2000 by a repair shop in Columbus, OH using a factory rebuild kit. The engine was pulled due to mild smoke from exhaust - turns out it was due to the use of unleaded gas and it's resultant effect on the valve guides. The engine was in good shape and only the valve guides were replaced (with guides appropriate for unleaded fuel) all else checked good. Very few miles were added after the rebuild by the prior owner and of course I've added very few after I purchased the car 16 years ago. I don't know if any engine work was performed by previous owners prior to 2000 (I am the 4th owner). When we worked on the engine we did run a compression check and all cylinders and they were within limits and the engine appeared to be running well (no smoke, no noise, etc..). I hope this helps answer your question

Anyone interested in this 442 I saw it in person a few weeks back. Was passing through area and stopped to check it out. Very nice car, I was close to buying but really wanted more of a project / restomod so opted for a Cutlass for that, not modify a 442 that deserves to stay original as possible.
Car is as advertised, very clean, really just minor body work and and paint to be really nice. It is very presentable as is. Whoever owned this car prior to current owner Bob took good care of it, probably a summer only type car from the condition.
Clean Floors, trunk floor, trunk drops, rockers, door bottoms etc. Front fender braces appear to be all there and good condition. That is to say the typical problem areas on these cars this one is very clean.
There are a couple small dents, one on driver door and one on passenger quarter. Not bad at all pretty easy fixes.
Body is very solid. Ohio car! car is really rust free, there is some minor lower front fender bubbling (Fender braces look good), small patch in driver side lower rear quarter (maybe 4" x 4" just behind fender opening), one finger size hole in driver side rear inner fender well near the lip joint but other wise appears to be straight and original. Inside door bottoms are good minor surface pops along the inner door skin folds but the folds are crisp and straight no fillers etc.
Interior is very clean, Bob had new door panels and bucket seat covers looks good. Carpet is faded but all there not dry rotted as they do when getting wet.
Top is good, no rips or tears.
Under hood is very clean and appears close to all original configuration and detailed nicely. Bob explained that his friend a mechanic did all of the work and was very detail, originality focused and it shows.
I drove the car locally and it ran well, smooth, shifted well, good power etc.
I am no expert and and only spent about 30 min looking it over but I was impressed with the condition. As always would recommend any interested to have a look for yourself.
I am not affiliated with owner in any way. We talked recently and I told him I was impressed with the car but was looking for a resto project. Told him I would give my honest opinion here on forum if he liked.
Nice car and honest seller.
