Got a '63 98 LS six window, joined for some help
Hey guys, glad to find a forum here that deals with rare cars like these. I recently got a really sweet '63 olds 98 LS six window, and am having transmission problems... but before I start asking everyone for help i'd like to brag on my car some. The previous owner claimed he registered it somewhere (i can't remember) and that it is supposed to be the earliest model known to exist, it's #134 off the line. It runs pretty good, aside from transmission and carburetor issues. And man oh man is it ever cool, I love the taillights and the 4 door hardtop. If it weren't such an early model i'd probably hack it up and put some suicide doors on the back, but never fear, it's too nice to start chopping on. I'd love to get the transmission working properly as again it's such and early model that I would hate to put a turbo 350 in it and totally screw the collector value of the car. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to talking with some NICE folks and from the posts i've seen on here, most of yall seem like you're alot less confrontational than the other internet forums.
pics for yall
here it is, i'm hoping I can sell it honestly, i've got too many classic cars and not enough money to finish any of them properly. Parts are expensive :-(

awww...
I guess the site administrators won't allow HTML on here. well anyhow if yall really want to see the pics you can copy and paste the URL into your browsers. just copy from the first w in www to the g in jpg and it should take you to them, but you'll have to change the number after olds for each one. there are 5 of them.
only 1 power window doesnt work, I haven't had the time to trace it down and see if it's the wires or the motor. At the moment my roto-hydramatic is the most important thing to figure out, it will only go up to about 25 miles per hour then just kinda shifts into never never land, where it doesn't really pull, but it isn't exactly nothing either.
The previous owner had the pan off and said that it didn't smell burnt or anything, I'm hoping that it's the governor, but even that's kinda a pain to get to on this thing, especially since I've never torn open an automatic in my life. The carburetor is not opening up all the way either, it does fine till about half throttle, then starts bogging down. Kinda sounds and smells like it's loading up at idle too... you really have to love classic cars not to gut them and put LS1 stuff in them ;-)

location
waaaaaayyyyy up in the mountains of western north carolina, a little town called murphy. I did have a fella contact me today about buying it, i'm taking a raping selling it for 1500 but I need the cash for more parts. This is one really cool car though, i'd love to restore it but other cars call my name nightly. I've got a 1950 chevy styline, a 1959 bel-air, a 1973 V.W. thing, a 1965 galaxie, several 1959 pontiacs, and a 1963 grand prix. at the moment just the '50 chevy, the V.W., and the bel-air are in my shop, so those will be first I guess. I'm still not sure I want to let the olds go for that price, but cash talks... it'll make me sad though.
Welcome to our site and good luck in your endeavor. I fixed your link for you. My son owned a '64 98 six window a while back and always had trouble with the transmission. He never liked it although the car was a real honey.
hey thanks oldsguy I appreciate the fixed link. thanks for the welcome as well. sadly I think I will be parting ways with her today though. That's kinda funny as soon as I give up on trying to sell her, someone contacts me wanting to buy... oh well, that's how it goes. I'll let you guys know how it all transpires.
still got her
well, i've still got her, I guess cash equals beat up old truck in some peoples minds. That's ok though, it will be an easy fix up to get her back on the road again. my buddy is coming over to help me tear into the transmission thursday... here's hoping we can fix it.... any advice?
