Factory 67 w30 Documented
I'm posting this for a friend of mine. This is a factory built 67 442 w30 4 speed. The engine is not original to the car, but has the correct E block 400 with C heads. According to the protect-o-plate the car came with a Q9 coded
4:33 posi. This code is a 67 w30 only code for a factory built w30 that had Disc brakes. The engine was replaced in 1968 under warranty by an olds dealership. The original rear end is not in the car. It has an Olds 12 bolt 3:55. All of the original w30 OAI parts are still on the car. Please contact myself or the Owner with interest.
My name: Jonathan Mott. My cell 208-731-7783

12 bolt 3:55 Gears
I don't know what to tell you about the rear. The axle code stamped on it is
"SJ" witch according to the books is a code for 3.55 posi. I have attached
a pic of the rear.

I have never seen so many codes at the bottom of a Lansing body tag. Wow.
Do you happen to have a close photo of just the POPlate part of the manual? Just for posterity/ curiosity. Just the metal plate part showing engine and trans ID & such. Thanks.

Good news and bad news:
The Q9 on the POP does mean that it came with a 4.33 for disc brakes. (Also documents that it is a factory W30. Only W30s came with Q5/Q9 coded rears.)
But that also means it was a 10 bolt cover/gear.
So the 12 bolt is a replacement. BUT. If a true SJ code O-type, that is a 1970 3.91 W30/W31 unit. (Have to look in the right book!)

Pretty cool car, as you already know! Interesting that the POP is actually stamped " P Q5 9". Would make you wonder if it should be Q5 or Q9, but the 5 in the 25100 confirms the disc brakes. More than likely the 9 stamp was added when they realized the 5 was wrong.

We know of 33 cars. On each of these 33 cars we have a substantial amount of data on each car to document them. The above car is one we have documented. I strongly doubt there are 100 survivors out there.

Thats good info, Thanks and just one more question, Just over 500 units were produced to enable legality in NHRA. So were all the cars aimed at track destiny or were some just built to fill the quota and had amenities that would appeal to the street hot rodder. In other words why were some built with power steering, brakes, consoles, and not just stripped down bare bones models models. I would think any car with 433's form the factory were aimed at strip only usage.

No
From what I understand, though I am not 100% sure on this answer so its just an educated guess, not all were destined for the track, NHRA had a production minimum of 500 cars to be built for the w30 to qualify to race, therefor 504 cars were produced. The 67 w30 could be ordered with a Q5/Q9 4:33, a TH 3:90, or a SJ 3:55. so with some coming with a 3:55 gears, PS and PB its not likely they were intended for the track but were ordered by buyers/dealerships that way. Also since only 500 cars were required and that they built 504 cars, Its likely they built 4 more cars than required because they were ordered. to build 4 more cars just to build them without having orders for them does not make sense. Since Oldsmobile offered over the counter the "track Pack w30 option" shows that they wanted the OAI system to be in the consumers hands and end up on cars. Anybody else have input on this?

So we look back now with close scrutiny at the weight (and cost) of options and wonder why. But still, virtually half of the 54 1966 W30s were the heavier hardtops and many of the 54 had options that added weigh. And those were *all* made for racing.

Just showing that the race cars were not all optimally equipped.

I realize that I am talking about a 1966 W30 but I have a window sticker of one of the 54 and it is a 3817 Cutlass 442 somewhat loaded.

This 67 W-30 has been for sale in AZ for years. It has 3.90 gearing.
I presume that this Saffron painted car is among the 33 you have accounted for.

I realize it follows the thread but. . . .
I wonder what "factory ordered" means to them.
I have never seen "fiberglass" inner fender fillers.
What does "GT stripe delete" mean?
How about that exhaust! Mufflers with weird size expander inlets, and welded to the weird (only on one side) size reduced tailpipes?
