W30

Hi Mike;
Looks like maybe it has the "Canadian Import only" oil change sticker on the left valve cover.
If so, it was originally sold in Canada.
Regards
Dick

If it's an X code car that's all the substantial documentation you need.

looks to me like a piece of duct tape covering the hole in the valve cover!

^^^^This.
The Canadian Import sticker was attached to the front part of the VC. Where the tape is now is where the breather goes for the OAI. Same as on the other side of the RS VC. It should have a breather vent instead of VC. The obvious reason is the missing OAI elements and the original 7042251 carb.

I'm with you. The Cdn. oil change decal is further forward. The tape is over the pcv opening.
Just an observation, as the 72 442 is not a separate model, ie., not having its own vin, the internal voltage regulator alternator was removed and an external v.r. was used as on a regular Cutlass, which seems to be a regressive step. I wonder Olds thinking behind this change, as the two year W30 engines were almost identical.

Being a rare low production model, I wonder if the purchaser would be tempted to install a console or leave it as it is.

GLWS. It has the potential to be a fabulous W30.

Brian, may I gently remind you that a W30 did indeed have a special VIN? They were X code cars and easily identified by that fact in the VIN. This one must start out as 33687X2M as all W30's were built at Lansing. I think you meant to say that in 1972 the 442 did not have it's own model line, as compared to 68-71.

My comment wasn't a greed thing, it was a humor thing. "there is another" is a line from Star Wars. Although, yes, i do have another, but I haven't listed it for sale. Plenty of other W cars for sale. I'm sure you'll find one.

I'm glad Joe's happy with the car. Seller is really happy it's sold. ..... all good !
Tire kicker was not a jab... just a question. Just trying to save time.
I'll post the 72 X if and when the time comes.
