70 w-30

******************SOLD ******************

I'm checking interest on my 70 W-30 Gold/Gold-black stripe hardtop. It's a #'s matching engine, OW coded auto trans,TM code 3.42 posi rear, rally pac, dual gate,A/C,P/S,P/disc brakes,SSII wheels, sport wheel & mirrors. I also have the correct date coded 7040258 restored carb & 1100979 distributor I bought from Brian Trick. The engine & trans are rebuilt but are not in the car. It's a very solid straight dry Texas car with very minor rust. The left fender has been replaced with a 71/72 fender. The car must have been involved in an accident causing the fender change and a small amount of damage to the left door. The red inner fenders are pretty nice, the left front unit is out of the car but I do have it. When the left fender was changed, they put a black unit in instead of the red unit. I know that some of the options I listed are included in the W-30 package but just wanted to list them as being there. I DO NOT have the OAI cleaner for it. The TM code 3.42 rear appears to be the unit that came in the car. I verified the casting date(269) and it's appox. 4-5 weeks before the build date of the car which is 11A. I know that a 3.42 was not supposed to be available with A/C but there are several cars that have a 3.42 with A/C used to verify it. There is no paper work to document the car but the correct OW trans with the matching vin # documents the car. The correct F-heads and W-30 aluminum intake are on the rebuilt engine. Before anybody tells me where to look for paper work,it has already been looked for with no luck. The interior has been redone by somebody,so I'm guessing they built a fire with the paperwork.I do have some pictures available if anybody is seriously interested. Delivery possible. $19.5K

Thanks

Mike

You might want to be careful with your comments about "Hispanics" or other ethnic groups, you never know who might be interested in buying your car. Just a thought.

No harm intended to anyone, just making a reference to how they do some of their interiors. If it offends somebody,I'm sorry but if it keeps somebody from buying it,guess I just missed a sale, right?

The point I that I'm trying to get across is, you never know who you are dealing with these days with the internet. A lot of hurtful acts were not intended, so we all should be mindful of what we do and say. End of topic and Good Luck with your sale.

Thank you for the education in selling a car. This PC crap is killing this country. Take it any way you like,me saying Hispanic was not over the line even as much as you would like for it to be. I corrected the ad,you should not have come back @ me with you're lecturing. You can respond all you like,I'm done with the class.

You've taken it the wrong way. I was not trying to lecture you and I was finished also. That's why I said end of topic and wished you good luck selling your car. Seems that I've offended you. I'm sorry.

No I'm not offended or mad in any way shape form or fashion. I'm thick skinned and I get called a redneck all of the time because of where I live, doesn't faze me in the least. I appreciate the good luck with the sale.

Thanks

As I offered on the other site,if anyone is interested in the car,I have a very nice 70 442 driver's side fender, that I can offer up for sale,as it is the only piece the car really needs. It is gold too, just add the W30 holes. This is a very nice,rust-free,original car.

Take a video with sound of you slamming the trunklid looking for that hollow tinny sound. That should tell people a lot, sans paperwork provided the trunklid is original to the car. W30 owners already know this, but there shouldn't be any insulation in the trunklid and minimally elsewhere. They definitely make a distinct sound compared to a "regular" trunklid. That, along with the trans numbers should be enough. It would be for me.

And to think I passed up one of these, verified with paperwork, with same color back in 1985 for $3500. I couldn't get past the column shift at the time.

I do not have a way to video the car/trunk. I've been dealing with Olds for over 30 years and I would say for sure this car is real. I don't need $$$$ bad enough to try to fraud someone. As far as the trunk lid goes,it's rock solid but I will check the sound. I married my wife in 1986,got her cheap but that was the end of cheap.

short of the docs, the trans derivative stamping on the trans is all that is needed. The trunklid is an urban legend.

From my experiences, it isn't. But we can simply agree to disagree on that point.

Now, if I just had an extra 19.5 laying around...

I can go with the agree to disagree.

boy, I'd hate to think what would happen if a w-machine had a rusted out trunk lip so the trunk lid was replaced and got rid of that "tin-e" sound. Does that mean it's no longer a legit w-machine?

I have 2 70 W-30s built 2 weeks apart. one with the original lid and the other without it's original lid...both sound the same as my Rallye 350 to me.

The trunk lids on my W-31's are the same. They do not sound hollow nor tinny, infact, the weatherstrip will make a difference on the sound of the trunk lid closing. Nothing beats original GM weatherstripping.

SOUNDS like the deck lid is now a non issue...
No pun intended...
Can you post some pics of the W equipment Mike...?
You mentioned the engine and trans are out of the car so I would think you could get some great pics of what everyone would like to see if they would come and see the car in person...

Block/Trans/Carb/Intake/Heads/Distributor/Red Inners/Dual Gate etc… (stampings)

Maybe the interior and replacement fender that was offered as well???

I sent you a picture but it's small and I don't know why. I will take another picture of it when I take the vin stamping on the engine & trans.

I had always thought the tags in 70 were blue for the 400s.
This would look good on there.

Sorry,I didn't mean to ignore you. The speedo gear and sleeve are missing,it has a dust plug in the hole. The speedo gears and the sleeves are available from various vendors. You can look in the 70 assembly manual in the transmission section and there's a chart that will tell you what gear to use with what tire size. The repo speedo gears are sometimes different colors from OEM but it's not a problem as long as the tooth count is correct. There are two different sleeves that's dependent on what speedo gear you use. The sleeve is the housing that the gear rides in.

Mike,
It looks like the passenger fender is a 71-72,and the driver's side fender is the correct 70 fender. Is this correct? If that is the case, you need a passenger fender, and not a driver's fender.
As for the 70 TH400 OW transmissions,I have seen them in black and blue. All of the 71's that I have seen, were blue.

In the picture, the passenger fender has the crumple bumps, and the driver's fender does not. I would need to see if I have another nice 70 442 fender for the passenger side.If someone doesn't mind the bumps,I have a perfect driver's side 71-72 442 fender, that I could sell instead,so it would match the existing passenger fender.
