It was awkward tilting my head to look at that so here ya go. ( I took the liberty of cropping the pic) Very nice looking car and reasonably priced IMO. Just curious - what braking system on front of this car? Power drums or power disc?
BTW is that a red 65/65 GTO??

Joe?? Take note ^^^. I believe this is relatively pertinent to our discussion on the Olds 442 threads discussion about 455 and J50/J52 optioning for the first part of 72. I think it's also relevant to the 71 production year models for BBO's. (sans 442/W30)

With a Cutlass Supreme grill I bet the vin on block doesn't match vin of car. I have never seen a Cutlass S with a 455 Olds motor. I have seen a Cutlass S with a ram air hood and 4 spd. from the factory that wasn't a W-31.

I have a build sheet from a 72 special order Cutlass S that is equipped with a 455. The car lives only an hour and a half from here and is owned by a guy named Chris O. It was special ordered for black paint which was not offered in the 72 GM A body lineup - or do you wish to dispute that too?
There are also members of this site who have 455 engines (from factory) in their Cutlass, f85, Cutlass S and Cutlass Supreme's.
BTW, it's not uncommon for folks to substitute things like grills when the originals get damaged. The 1970 Cutlass grills are not reproduced and they are extremely hard to get in decent condition. Just because you haven't seen these things personally doesn't mean they don't exist. I have personally seen and touched plenty of 70-72 Cutlass/Cutlass S models that have factory 455's (yes, matching numbers too). I KNOW they built 455's into those body styles.
Look at Box 24 - that's the VIN for this car 3G87U2Z108543. That's a 72 Cutlass S, built in Freemont with U code 455 engine and M40 3 spd transmission. Scott Hardman (GAOldsman on this site) also has a factory ordered CS Hardtop his Dad ordered from the factory with a U code engine. There are more, but is that a good enough start for you?

Nik have you wiped your computer screen lately with clean screen wipes? You know the ones for you need to clear the fog! So you can do research to find out what is or isn't available before you post.No need for you to go on these rants.Just because you never seen a cutlass s that is a 1970 with a 455 doesn't mean there was none.I have seen two numbers matching with 455 engines 1970 cutlass s.So sit back take a deep breath.Did you get wound up on ROP so you thought you could come over here and tell these guys they don't know what is or isn't available for a 1970 cutlass s.LOL

Allen he isn't stating it but he is referring to the car in question with the supreme grills. That car is a 1970 cutlass s not to be confused with any other year of car you want to interject into the discussion. No disrespect to you Allen.Joe P showed paperwork proving that that engine is available.I have seen two of these examples myself for a 1970 cutlass s.Gerald flies off the handle sometimes.

I think for a long time folks didn't know the 455 was available on a Cutlass besides the Supreme SX, but it's true. However, I think the only way one could get a 4bbl. was with the SX - of course, there were two versions of that, making it even more confusing.

Gerald, you seem like a really pleasant guy and given the fact that I have a family and not tons of time to spend on the computer I finally had time to check the vin. You would seem to be correct in this one and I have been duped by the previous owner, not that it would have stopped my from buying it. This is a driver car and for the asking price someone could do a quick paint job and have a nice clone. The vin is real hard to make out but does not seem to match the dash vin. Again sorry was not trying to misrepresent this car thanks. Chris. Still for sale but with a non numbers matching 455

How is option information from the 1970 model year proof of anything in the 1972 model year? Does the fact that a W-30 with AT in 1969 got the 328 deg cam mean that it's POSSIBLE that some were built that way in 1970? Of course not, and none were.

My 72 H/O all original and delivered to a dealer as a 72 H/O never had the W45. I checked with Judy Bagley of the Hurst Olds Club and she said some made it out the door with out the W45. My 72 was not the only one that didn't have W45 but three others also. I'm saying I have never seen a 1970 Cutlass S with a 455 it might of happen, but till I see a build sheet with a vin# and pic of vin, I'm sticking to my guns. I've done Olds sense 1967. show me and I'm say OK.

Joe P show us a build sheet from a 70 Cutlass S you don't have one do you. If it was built I would of seen one bye now. I'm 69 next month and grew up with these cars and I'm a Master Judge on OCA.

You simply haven't seen everything in your life. Production records show these were built. In the position you are in as a master judge, the onus is on you to learn all you can about these cars. Simply resting on your laurels because you "were there" doesn't cut it in a person of your position. I realize a judge can't know everything, but a judge should be making an effort to acquire knowledge, and the fact that you don't recognize that there still are things to learn in the hobby is disheartening to hear.

I'm not a psychologist and I do think it's unfair to arrive at a conclusion based on posts. Have you ever met him? I've seen his posts and not once have I ever inferred this about his character.
However, I've been accused of it several times.
