I don't know, I like all the Oldsmobiles, and truthfully think the Deltas and Delmonts of the sixties look just as nice if they were finished to the level of that starfire with same color, interior, wheels, and tires. Sure, Deltas look like that, to me.....

Dan, I think Specman's point was more the condition of the car and it being a convertible. Rather than Starfire vs Delta/Delmonts.

J-'s comment referenced roughly $1000 Deltas. To me, Specman's comment said: Do 'those' Deltas look anything like this? I saw the humor in it. But if anyone knows of a Delta, Delmont or Jetstar in that condition for around a $1000 I can make a quick trip to the credit union.

I like the 60's Delta, Delmont & Jetstars. I love the bronze interior in my 66 Jetstar 88. But the Starfires & Jetstar I's do have thier appeal.

Sigh.... I can't stop looking at the pictures.

If It was dark blue, I'd have to revoke my membership on here until it was sold, and the pictures destroyed.

I forgot to set my alarm for this auction and was almost in tears.
Wasn't meant to be I guess.

Thanks for the compliments. No insult intended. No doubt there are some great looking Deltas and others done up. But there is just something about the Starfire that always got me personally more than any of the others.

Maybe its because my father always bought the 88's and 4 doors at that and I always wanted him to move up, but he couldnt see the value in the 2 doors, the better trim, ac and all the toys, the bucket seats, the rumbly dual exhaust, the 425 with extra horsepower, the bigger tires, the wire hubcaps, the flashy colors... To him, a practical working man, it was all the same thing, and he wasnt going to pay 2 grand more for chrome,as he put it. But to me as a 16 year old kid it was a huge difference.

And the name. For example, consider that the Jetstar I is a virtually identical car, but it wasnt a Starfire. And we all know that even the Jetstar 88 convertible, except for the engine and trim, is really the same physical car , but its not a Starfire. I absolutely HATED it when Olds stuck that name on that tiny shitcan years later. What a waste. NEver liked another Olds afterward.

I wanted this since 65, and when I could afford it I looked for this for 5 years. THey are rare as hens teeth. Ive had it for about 3 years and have not yet even SEEN another one in the flesh. I've enjoyed it alot and am ready to move on. I'd Trade/swap for nice 442 for example 68-70. But if I get "stuck" with it, oh well, I'll suffer it through.

Don't forget the trans (Jetaway vs THM400) and suspension differences (differential/rear axle, smaller brakes (9.5 inch instead of 11") derived from the F85) series that made the J88 a much cheaper car (and arguably dangerous with those brakes). A nicely equipped Delta convertible...you could get the Starfire engine, I even saw one once with buckets and a console (come to think of it, that was a coupe) would be a closer match.

There were a few great looking Deltas. Like the Royale. And there were one or two with the big 455. But they began toing them down and there was a lag in between, and by that time my mindset had switched to the Cutlasses and 442's. I saw one fullsize in here a few months ago , supposedly factory (probably a COPOspercial if so) from a guy in Holland I think that looked real muscular, had the 455, louvres in the trunk and a tail stripe around the rear quarters that I would take in a heartbeat. But the Starfire......

That is a nice car. However, big cars are ALWAYS better than little cars. Especially when you are 7 ft tall and weigh 290 lbs.
