I had a 1994 (hardtop) with the 3.4 DOHC. Replacing the alternator was brutal. Had to access it from underneath the car and remove the half shaft. It's really buried in there and gets bombarded with heat. These engines were interference engines and used a rubber timing chain that needed to be replaced every 40k or face catastrophic failure. Entire pulley side of the engine had to come apart to access it. It was like a $1,500 job back in the early 2000's to replace.
Mine lasted until around 165k miles and then had to do the cash for clunkers and get $4,500 for it as it was facing another timing belt change and alternator was going out again. I didn't want to dump $3k into a car like that. The engine ran (leaked and burned a little oil) but overall it was decently reliable. Ideally, the 3.1 non-DOHC engine was the better of the engine options. No rubber timing belt and it used a steel timing chain on its OHV design which was less complex and more reliable.
