I saw this one yesterday in my search, really hard to find in this condition. It does look like the front header panel with the emblem was replaced though, seems like the darker red color GM had that year. I wonder why...……? Can those windows be un-tinted?

Pretty Olds.

To answer BlueCalais79's question, yes windows can be un-tinted. I stripped the tint off of the front and rear windows of my 96 98 using a straight razor, heat gun and elbow grease. The most difficult window to remove tint from would be the rear window with the defrost option. I paid a tint shop to remove the rear window tint from my Olds before they retinted it with Rayno Q7 tint.

Good to know. I'd be a potential buyer if this car had the gauge package, an option that year. Looking at that massive speedometer was a bit boring after a time. I bought one of these new in 1991, a 2 tone blue/grey one. A really peppy motor that got me 30 mph. Mine was an SL with the FE-3 package, but I spent all I had on the car at the time and couldn't go for the extra $1200-$1500 for the added options which would have included the gauge package.

I put 131,000 miles on mine in the first 3 years I owned it. These motors can get you 200,000 plus if they are treated right. The head gasket issues were not as prevalent by 1991, but, the horrid paint peeling issues were still an issue. Mine was no exception. It had to be re-painted by 1999.

I enjoy driving my 96 98, I've put over 30k miles on it in less than 2 years. It also needs paint (the OE paint is faded and damaged). Did you scuff and shoot the 91 you had, or did you blast it all the way to bare metal before repainting? I'd like to see some pics when you get a chance.

I sold the car to someone in the business and he did a nice job of re-painting it. After he used it for 6 years he offered to give it back to me for nothing. But I passed, he was a heavy smoker and he RUINED the interior. Too bad, really too bad, that SL interior wears like iron but it was pocked with cigarette holes everywhere. And the carpet was gone which I was advised the car leaked (something they all do). Smelled so bad I just said trash it. He wanted to pull the motor even though it had 256,000 on it. I changed the oil every month with Mobil One, I have to think that was part of the reason it hung around so long. I will see if I can get any photos, that was the days before digital cameras.

Funny how when you buy something new, in your mind it is new forever. How dead wrong that really is.

If it were about $1500 less I would be making a trip to PA.

I know it is not right to do but I would be swapping some of the interior parts with the ones in my 91 W-41 car.

And it would be correct, the W-40 & 41 used the Calais S interiors, they are essentially the same. Heck, make them an offer, this isn't a high demand car. And, they are very tough to find in this condition.

Happy Hunting

Not saying that you have to buy it but I will say when I came across the listing I thought to myself "that's the nicest one I've seen since that W41 on ClassicOlds"

There was a really nice 1991 SL for sale on e-Bay about a month ago, even nicer than this one, it got up to $3800 and did not sell and it was not re-listed I will be back with the auction number.

But again, it had that massive speedometer gauge instead of the rallye pack. Gotta have those gauges.

It was auction 304090654537, it ended 8/09, an even nicer car than this Calais S. I can't get it to come up in the advanced look up so since I saved it I just sent the seller a note asking if it was still for sale. Car is in Michigan, a bit closer to Indiana than P'Burgh.

It's no longer for sale. I'm hoping this owner will take it to the Olds Nationals next year.
