Yes it is. You never saw that blue around here and never understood why. Sure saw a lot of pea green and catshit gold though.

Blue is an odd color in automotive. There's black, white, and light gray and dark gray. Metallic in any of those makes pearls, silvers, and micas. Red has bright red and dark red, ie, maroon. Yellow and gold and green you typically only see in one shade each, although Olds did do a lemon in 67 that was light yellow. Gold and brown are also one shade, with the occasional tan. I guess green could go utility truck ASPLUNDH green. Blue, however, there's light blue, dark blue, and medium blue, and blue just isn't that popular, so to see a specific one of those three is rare.

I think color popularity goes nowadays black>>>white>>>greys/silvers>>>>>>>>>>>>red>>>>blue>>>gold>>>>>>>>>gree n>>>>>yellow/brown/purple.

You can blame the Germans for the obsession with silvers and grays. It was part of their "hi-tech" image and marketing in the 80s. I intend to never own another gray/silver, white or black vehicle. Boring colors, even more so than beige.

I could live with that Eclipse Blue though. Just don't want to deal with another scissor-top.

If that's anywhere near accurate over 75% of 2020 car deliveries were black, white, or some shade of gray. No wonder you can't find a decent looking vehicle any more.

Koda, you're in the industry so maybe you can shed light. I've heard white, black and gray are the cheapest colors to paint is why the factories push them on dealers.

If these boring colors were teamed with a little bright trim or good interior colors (not gray, tan or black) they'd be a little better. But with no accents or bright interior the things are pure and simple on par with a low-line washing machine, and about as attractive.

I THINK the pigments are about the same price. Metal, and especially pearl is more. Neutral colors sell better because everyone is at least ok with them, whereas some people love green, and some hate it. No sale to the haters. Pearl, at least the way Toyota does it, is white with an extra shiny layer then the clear.
