1972 Hurst/Olds Indy 500 Festival Pace Car Convertible
*For Sale:
Here is a spectacular opportunity for someone to own a 1972 Hurst / Olds Indy 500 Festival Pace Car Convertible.
The perfect "Christmas" Gift.
This 1972 Hurst / Olds Indy 500 Festival Pace Car Convertible is without a doubt one the best ones in existence. I have yet to see one nicer. It has been pampered and owned by one of the largest Oldsmobile Private Collectors.
Just two years after pacing the Indy 500 with the 442 Oldsmobile partnered with Hurst Performance Products to produce the 1972 Hurst/Olds Official Indy 500 Pace Car.
This was the first time in the history of the race that an aftermarket performance manufacturer had been part if the Pace Car action. Driven by Indy veteran Jim Rathmann, the official car`s 455 V-8 produced 300 horsepower, while production version, comprising of 130 Convertibles and 499 hardtops was rated at 270 bhp.
Equipped with the Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission and 3.23:1 gears, all cars were painted Cameo White and given Black interiors with Strato Bucket Seats, Console and Hurst Dual Gate Shifter. In addition, they were fitted with unique fiberglass Ram Air hood with hold-downs and reflective Gold Pace Car graphics.
Today, fewer than 50 of the convertible pace cars are known to exist. The W45 code on its Cowl Tag and Build Date indicates that this car was one of the 54 Festival Parade Cars. Used for parade and display purposes before the race, this vehicle was driven by Committee Director Robert Kiley Jr. for track duties.
Specifications:
* Balanced and Blueprinted 455 cubic inch engine rated at 270hp. * Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission with 3.23:1 gears. * One of 54 used at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. * 1st Place Oldsmobile Club of America National Winner. * 2017 Muscle Car and Corvette National Gold Concours Winner - 974 Points. * Factory Air Conditioning. * Rally Sport Steering Wheel with Tilt Column. * Rally Gauge Pack including Tic-Toc-Tac. * Indy 500 dash plaque. * Original 1972 Hurst/Olds Press Kit.

Reason: Update
I am going to presume that the engine, transmission, carburetor, distributor, alternator, and rear end can be shown to be numbers matching and/or date correct via stampings/castings that can be seen?
Is there documentation showing that it is truly that low mileage?
As the cowl tag saying W-45 means that it is a U Code 72 Hurst Olds only, I presume that there is supplemental documentation saying it was a festival car like is said in the ad? Like a racetrack pass for that specific car? Do you have the parade flags and holders?
I am going to presume, since you probably would have said otherwise, open rear end and AM radio.
We have in writing from Bob Schiely from The 1972 Hurst Olds Registry....this car as being verified as car number 11 out of the 54 Festival Parade Cars.
This is a Festival Car....only the "Official" Pace Cars were the cars that had the Parade Flags and Holders.
This car was stored and last off the road in 1977 proven by the window sticker.....Picture provided above. The millage is 100% accurate.
We have been in contact with the Owners Family who was appointed duties as a member of the "500" Festival Board and Committee.
Here is a picture of the Son and friends Celebrating his Birthday Party.
All of these Documents are part of the cars history and come with the sale of the car.
I have and can provide pictures of engine and trans stamp....100% Born With and Authentic.
All 1972 Hurst /Olds with A/C were equipped with 3.23 Non Posi.
The radio and all of the interior is 100% all original.... in fact the drivers seat has a small blemish from a cigarette burn....which we decided to leave alone as it is part of the cars history and we dared not touch the originality of the interior.
Koda....you are very close by....if you are serious about the car, schedule an appointment to come see the car.
You will NOT be disappointed.

I remember those Indiana inspection decals, the state stopped requiring them in the late '70s IIRC (never had to have any of my cars inspected, starting in '81). So I'm not sure that this proves its not been on the road since '77. Aug '77 would've been about the time I got my driver's license.
I remember when I was in HS in the late '70s, I was driving back from a marina shop in New Haven, IN and passed a used car dealership that had one of these sitting in the showroom. I saw it out of the side of my eye and pulled a U-turn at the next left, went back to drool over it for a few minutes. It was also a parade car w/ the flags on the back, excellent condition. I don't remember who's name was on it or what the asking price was (I knew there was no way I could afford it so didn't bother to ask).
Serious question- why do you think this car is worth 58K more than when you bought it 2 1/2 years ago at auction? I have someone somewhat interested but he is still wondering why you think it made 2 thousand a month in your possession

Serious Answer! Allow me to educate YOU. Yes, The Same Owner and the Same Car! Yes we attempted to sell the car at Barrett-Jackson in 2017. My client did not wish to GIVE THE CAR AWAY....so he purchased the car back....at a way below price of $76.5K.
My client even had Linda Vaughn with us on the Auction Block that day....but there simply was no buyers present that day.
Do the math of what it would cost to ship a car to BJ,...pay the buyers and sellers fees and ship the car back home.. So to educate you and your potential someone interested in this car.....try finding a car as we found this one in the exact same condition (in Fantastic Condition) and say you purchased the car for $76.5K....what would it cost YOU to restore it to the same quality level as we did? Plus if you read my ad....it clearly states that my same client has owned this car for the last 12 years.
So now that you have the truth....perhaps YOU may change your approach, thoughts and thinking.
