Interesting. Someone else on this site just found out their 70 vert had the same surgery: entire front clip from a 71 replacing the proper one for a 70. I'll let the buyer/seller haggle this one out.

The thing I thought was REALLY funny? The video for the car shows a red 65 mustang vert.

Not necessarily a full clip. It still has '70 fender chrome. I am always curious when a dealer has a car like that. Will they take the 50% less it is worth or does it sit there forever until some sucker pays $20K for it?

 

I like the trumpet exhaust with the non-cut out bumper...

With all respects, there's nothing else but the fenders and lower rad support to fender braces that are close to being the same. All the following have been changed to allow the changes in sheet metal:
- rad support,
- headlight buckets,
- bezels,
- signal lamps
- bumper mounts,
- bumpers,
- hood & trim,
- stone shield,
- grills and mounting brackets.
None of those are straight across transferable from 70 to a 71/72 car. That's why I said pretty much a full front clip changeover. I looked at the images again and noticed the hood is definitely from a 72 AC car, and the front fender has the CS lower moldings around the marker lights that were available on only 70/71 cars. The script on the fender does support your statement that the fenders are from 1970.

I agree with you that 20K is very strong money. But you know what PT Barnum said about that. Don't know why anyone would go to the trouble of putting that clear plastic all over the seats unless it actually is the original interior and it was done long ago. But the plastic is way to clean and clear for that IMO.

IDK if a dealer will take less if you point out the 'flaws'. IMO their business is to try and get the most amount of money for the car they can. They aren't obligated to sell at lowball pricing offers. And as long as the car is properly titled I doubt they even care. Sooner or later someone who doesn't give a rip about it being 'correct' will buy the car.

 

Anybody catch the option list on the landing page? A/C,cruise, leather seats, AM/FM radio, full size spare and 2 sets of keys. Did anybody spot any of these items on this car? Leather maybe????

 

Nope. Like i mentioned, his video is for a mustang even though it shows the black cutlass on the face. I'm guessing his landing page has not been updated with complete info from the last vehicle sold. Full size spare? Heck there's not even a jack in there.

Allan it's not an original interior so the plastic, as you say, is questionable.

I saw a 70 Cutlass convertible at the Turkey Rod Run this past Thanksgiving that was done the same way. 71 clip on a 70. So many things not correct and it was advertised as all original. And at a price north of 20K.

Do the Chevelle people have this sort of trouble?

 

Those wheel opening mouldings are worth more off the car than on it....car is a lump......
