We are pleased to present this 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile H/O for consideration. After a successful launch of the 1968 Hurst H/O Oldsmobile, George Hurst’s vision for his 1969 creations was to make a statement. The conservative color scheme of Peruvian Silver with black stripes and accents of 1968 was changed to much more aggressive Bright White with signature “Hurst” Frost Gold stripes and accents. Also, Hurst relocated the Cold Air Induction to the top of the hood by grafting massive “mailbox” style intake scoop to the hood and added a rear spoiler. With the addition of the new paint scheme, the scoops, headrests and the spoiler, Hurst added the “Show to the Go” and was recognized unmistakably as Hurst H/O’s. With production more streamlined than the prior year, and the surge in demand from dealers, Hurst was able to raise production from 515 units for year 1968 to 914 units for year 1969. These cars featured a Hurst prepared 455 Cubic inch block; this is significant as General Motors had a ban on any motor over 400 cubic inches to be used in a production mid-sized car. These cars produced 380 horsepower and a face-ripping 500 ft-lbs of torque. Power is transferred via a Hurst fortified turbo 400 transmission and delivered via a W27 heavy duty posi-traction rear end.
The 1969 Hurst H/O offered here is nothing short of outstanding. This 2-owner, 51,371 mile example was special ordered and delivered new at Huebner Chevrolet in Carrollton, OH. This car retains its original numbers matching Hurst prepared 455 CID engine, Transmission, and drive train. The interior remains largely original featuring original seats, door panels, dash, gauges, components etc. The car has been the recipient of one highly detailed older restoration using only original or NOS parts if needed. No expense was spared and no detail over looked when restoring this piece of automotive history. Documentation includes: Original Oldsmobile factory build sheet, original shipping and delivery receipts between Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance, Original Hurst Performance Research Corporation Dealer shipper, Original Protect-o-plate, original finance contract, original title, original certificate of insurance, original owners manual, complete owner history, etc.
Hurst Olds H/O’s are important cars; they possessed the most horsepower and torque of any car in its class. When it comes to collectability, production numbers, originality and owner history matter. With only nine-hundred fourteen Hurst Olds H/O’s produced in 1969, these cars are few in numbers. This is an opportunity to acquire a high caliber example of a car that bent the rules General Motors Corp. and established new ground work for Big Block Horsepower. With the combined efforts of Oldsmobile and Hurst, they were able to produce and promote a product that integrated raw muscle and refinement: “The Executive Hot Rod.”
