John was, for all practical purposes, a classic oldsmobile dealer. Don't know if he has anything left. Dean knows better than me. He bought two or three of them.

Ramrod 1968

Love this thread. Every time that I post about the car that I had when in college folks jump up and tell me that it didn't exist. It was a '68 Cutlass S RamRod convertible, red with black TP and interior, 3 speed floor shift, no a/c, eight track. Traded it in about 1972 in Greenville, SC. Had less than 100,000 hard miles on it. ;-) Have no remaining paperwork so it is just my word. But it did exist. And it was a beast.

Did you buy it new or acquire the car like that?

Ordered it new special from Penegar Motor Co in Rockingham NC after seeing the ads for the 500 coupes that were being built. Didn't have power anything, except the convertible top that is. Nice dual exhaust, stock was basically a resonator on each side, had quite a lope. Would easily turn 6500 rpm. 3.91 non posi rear end was tough on the stock tires ;-)

See, that is always the answer. So the engine, heavy clutch, 3.91 rear end, three speed Hurst, etc. were added at my dealer? I find that hard to believe. I recall the price of the car was no more than $3,500. It's all OK, I KNOW what I had.
Moot point now ;-)

Didn't say that is always the answer nor am I saying it didn't exist just making queries.
Regardless it looks like it was a fun car

It was indeed and I truly wish that there was some way to verify it. The only thing that crosses my mind is to research state tax records of the period to see if there is a VIN noted. May do that sometime just to see if the VIN is there.

The VIN won't tell you anything.

See the problem is stories like this come up all the time and there has never been one shred of evidence to support any of them. I'm not saying they didn't make them I'm just saying extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

In 68-69 there was nothing in the VIN, Cowl tag, or Broadcast card to indicate whether it was a W31. Build sheets don't exist for them.....period. Without a dealer invoice, window sticker, or GM of Canada documentation there's no way to authenticate it.

I added the red side stripes to break up the white body. Knowing this was a stripe delete car. What do you guys think ?

The car looks fantastic. The red Y70 stripe was available but if I remember correctly it was deleted on your car. I still think it looks great and I don't see it hurting the value. I'm glad you didn't put that W36 stripe back on in the incorrect location.

I am curious why you or anyone would order a car with 3.91 gears & no posi?

The original owner pased away before I could talked to him. He was one not to be in the spot light which is why he order an all white car and stripe delete. Not the way I would have done it. I think we would all have ordered are car differently but that is what makes the unique.

Was the fender stripe part of the W-30 package in 1968? It has to be for this to be a stripe delete car.

the rallye stripe W36 was standard on W30. the GT side strip was NA. Also no anti-spin required except with 4.33

Dean, was the dark green V Code Supreme convertible with OAI still there? When Bob Peters (SX455.com) was selling it a few years ago, John beat me to it by a day or so. Was hoping it wasn't just stashed away and not being enjoyed.

I may have missed it somewhere but isnt supposed to be some kind of W-30 badging on this car from the factory? Also where is the documentation confirming this car as such?

The documentation is under the front bumper.

:-)

I know, that's pretty weak evidence
