1966 Olds 98 Convertible 38K original miles
After completing a year + long frame on restoration on my 1966 Old's 98 Convertible I have started yet another project and am looking to sell.
Here's what I did over a period of 13 months when I purchased the car:
History: The car was originally purchased in '66 by a woman from Orange, CA from Bob Black Oldsmobile in Santa Ana, Cal. She drove it around town until late 1970's (was parked in her garage then entire time I'm told). Eventually, she passed and her kids sold it to a family friend who put it in his garage and there it sat until I bought it two years ago and restored it.I am the third registered owner.
No rust, bodywork (door dings from sitting in the garage) were fixed correctly (no bondo) and entire body was taken down to bare metal, primed, sanded and painted back to the original color (Autumn Bronze). The paint on the interior of the trunk lid was so good I didn't repaint it to show how well the new paint matched the original.
All interior/ exterior chome pieces (92 of them) were taken off and replated (triple plating).
Undercarriage was power cleaned and painted to factor spec.
Engine bay/motor was painted to factory spec
I replaced the right rear power window motor (frozen) (all power car and all work now).
Interior was re-foamed and matched to factory spec.
New Convertible top with period correct material was installed
Rebuilt OEM convertible pump was installed
New period correct dual exhaust system with resonators installed
Carpet and sound deading material was installed
Distributor was replaced with factory NOS distributor (rebuilt)
Carb was rebuilt (original)
Heater Core was replaced
Radiator was recored and additional row added (original Harrsion Radiator)
All period correct hoses, clamps, etc. were replaced on engine
Original A/C system was fixed (not running for 30+ years) and now works
Plus lots' more (have to go through my ledger)
Here's what I have left to do:
*Radio- was working prior to redoing the power antenna, so I need to r & r the radio to see if the internal fuse on the back of the radio (per my Radio specialist) is blown. By the way, the power antenna was rebuilt (works great) to factory spec with an original mast off another 98. My antenna motor was good but the mast had been broken so I had it fixed correctly.
*Alternator- has a noise (brushes I assume) so I am going to pull it and have it rebuilt professionally.
*Right rear window switch (at driver's console) needs to be fixed. Motor works and switch from the back seat works and window will go up and down but not from the driver's door console.
* Rear brake light baffles (both sides) need to be installed- I have them but haven't installed them yet.
* passenger side windshield wiper spring needs to be replaced.
*A/C works great, at all levels except "High" -I believe the blower diaphragm needs to be fixed.
Everything else works great on her and she drives great!
I have won best in Class (American made convertibles '65- '72) at the only show I took her to compete in and she gets looks where ever I take her.

Holy Socks Batman! I thought the engine compt of todays cars was crowded. That is an impressive array of belts, hoses, assemblies etc! Yikes, I wouldn't want to do the mtce on that! Who am I kidding? I LOVE to take things apart. Great shots!
BTW, photobucket is free to set up an account.
