1962 Cutlass 215 4bbl 4 speed car, survivor condition (Updated car status May 2015)

Man, O man. I guess it's the economy but it seems like interesting cars are coming out of the woodwork! A few blocks from me a young couple is holding a garage sale and has this car in the driveway. The guy bought it from an estate sale a few years ago, and now is wanting to sell it. He's not sure what the fair market value would be and ask me. I told him I didn't know either, but volunteered to take some pictures to share with you all. If anybody is interested in it I can provide his name and phone number. If anybody wants to see any specific pictures let me know and I can get those too. Odometer showed 55,000 although there's wear on the edge of the brake pedal. The interior is too nice for 155,000 so either the PO drug their foot off the edge of the brake pedal or someone re-did the interior. He said it doesn't smoke but does leak some oil. I don't see any rust, paint is badly faded, some chrome has bumps in it, the rear bumper has rust dots in places. He said he has all the paperwork and that he's the second owner, plus he has some extra trim pieces. Check it out:

could you tell if it is original paint? the tag you posted looks like it had green paint maybe? also, that is A/C right? i have no idea what the value of it would be or what shipping would be to Indiana but i may be interested in it.

Oh Jeez, John, Did you have to go and do that?

For the right price, I might hock the furniture and drive that back East.
With the silver **** 4-on-the-floor and the silver aftermarket gauges, even.

Owwwwwwwch, my brain is hurting. Not fair, not fair.

Good eye, Jensen, but the Olds color code "L" in '61 looks up as "Garnet Mist," which actually looks to be the same color.
Not sure why that spray pattern is there.

Anyway, in all seriousness, if that guy wanted $1,000 for it or something like that, I'd start scheming, but transcontinental transportation costing what it does, that's the best I'd be willing to throw at it.
I know it's worth more than that to the right person, but, as my wife says, I'm cheap .

I know, I know Eric. if I didn't have a driveway full already I'd be raiding my savings account right now!

Last weekend I looked at a 1954 Olds 88 two door hardtop project car. I made a commitment to buy it daydreaming about swapping in a 455. After I thought about it a little more I'll likely offer it here to see if someone else needs a project. Today I spent much of the day shuffling things around to make room for that car

Temp gauge says 280 is that a little warm for an aluminum motor? Just kidding...

The owner said it was a 1961 and I don't know these cars well enough to recognize his mistake.

I've got a lot more information on the car, plus lots more pictures. I was letting the first three people who expressed interest check it out one at a time. Those folks have all decided to pass on it. The owner said he would need at least $5,000 for the car to sell. To me that seems high for the 1961-63 vintage, but it's his car and I'm not going to argue with him. Check out the additional photos on my photobucket site: http://s90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...961%20Cutlass/

I still think its a pretty cool car and if anybody wants to pursue it let me know and I'll get you his phone number. John

Gee Whiz! I love those little F85's, but question if my 6'3" 236#'s will fit comfortably. And a standard floor shift! Would so love to have it; unfortunatly went out w/Juju yesterday and bought a new/new $3K leather couch for the LR. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, so it goes. It is what it is. Now, if he was willilng to take $1500, I'm on a plane to Oregon, run up to Seattle and visit the Grandson (and his parents, of course), and on the way back to Texas, somehow. LOL!

That looks like a pretty cool car, esp. with the 4-speed.

Sorry Frankie, I've lost track of the car. There are several members here with similar cars, but I think all have automatic transmissions.

This is the car my wife fell in love with. We could not work out a deal with this one being so far away but it is how we ended up with our Jetfire.

Driving that around would make you the "King of Cool" That is an amazing find. I see more and more Old Cars being worked on when I drive by and the guys have the garage doors open.
Thanks, Ron

I stopped and talked with the owner, his name is Rick and he's open to selling the car. I've passed his information onto the first person who contacted me in the last week, if he decides to pass I'll send it to the next person, and on from there. I think this is the most fair way to do it. I'll keep you all posted on what the results are.

I forgot I had joined this site some years back! It has been fun looking through all the posts and interest in my car, thanks John! I went through the stack of paperwork I received with the car today, tons of old receipts and records. The feeling of all the old papers between my fingertips was pretty awesome I must admit, got to imagine what the Olds has seen in its lifetime. I will try and be more active on the site if anyone feels the need to PM me by all means go ahead.

I think I have production numbers on 4-speed cars, so if you have a body number, I may be able to figure it out.

Thank you for sharing Eric! The new owner spent a lot of time (and I'm sure money) fixing the car and personalizing it. But so glad to see its alive and being treasured by a fellow car guy!
