While on The showgrounds for the national oldsmobile show in Gettysburg Pennsylvania, I placed my new car cover on my olds cutlass. We had Torrential rains Friday night, Saturday when I took the cover off there were where spots in bedded in the finish of the car. Today they do not look any different.
Does anyone have any ideas how to remove these?
If it doesn't come off with a mild polishing compound, leave it parked in the sun for a day or so. Some enamel and urethane clears can be sensitive to chemical bleaching from chemicals used in flexible plastics and fabrics when they get wet. If your car has a clear coat finish it would look like the clear turned slightly milky. Most times it will go away after a day in the sun. Hopefully that will fix it. If it doesn't damaged paint can be turned into your insurance company. I've repainted a couple of cars with similar stains in the last couple of years and they were covered by insurance. ~BOB
I sat next to the owner at the closing dinner in Gettysburg and I saw these marks on the car. The paint is original, no clear coat. I thought the water that came through the car cover had dissolved something that then reacted with the paint; however, I didn't have a solution for the owner other than contacting an expert painter who has been around since the before-time.

Original paint can be sensitive to the same chemical issue I mentioned in my last post. the good is; a day in the sun and then some polish will most likely work. the bad is; there isn't a lot of paint to work with so be careful to not polish through. ~BOB
Years ago when I was in high school and worked in a service station, we had a customer that would bring in his green pickup in every saturday for a wash job. Every time the water would leave spots like that. The owner of the service station would charge him extra because we would have to hand wax the truck to remove the spots. Used Turtle Wax Carnuba and the spots would go away until next wash job.
