Beware of this seller due to his unscrupulous practices. He lists parts with no price attempting to gauge a price by the number of responses about the item. He quoted me a price on a fan clutch and a day later said he would relist the item to be fair to himself and others due to the high number of private messages he received on the item.

After reading the referenced post, I believe this was just a misunderstanding of intent. In addition, this is prime example why classifieds require asking prices for listed items. It was a step to prevent issues like this from coming up.
Well Mr. Moderator it is no use to have rules if the rules are not enforced, and you can't enforce the rules if there are no penalties for breaking them. You call it a misunderstanding of intent when the seller admitted he listed the item without a price. Not certain how you square all that.
I smelled rot while dealing with this guy, confronted him with it, and posted my experience; all the while knowing nothing would be done about it. I've moved on.

Parts without price
Never have understood the issue? Some one has a part or parts they want to sell. They are unsure of the market or value based on supply and demand so they list the parts requesting offers? What's the issue? Seller wants to maximize profit and minimizing loss. In the end someone makes an offer and either it sells or not. Also prevents low ball buyers flipping the part immediately after purchase. Collector car market for cars and parts is ultimately determined by two folks. Not sure what the issue is unless the concern is seller playing buyers offers off each other. Already a site for that.

Maximize profit? Then put an asking price on there that does just that. The offers can come based on the asking price. Seller is required to put up the starting point.
The other thing that always amazes me is how many people want to sell stuff without any pictures. Sorry, that thing could be made out of gold. But without a picture, I'm sure as hell not interested. If you don't know how to post a picture, ask. If you have trouble figuring out how to take a picture, ask a relative, or friend, or a 15 yo kid with a phone.
I read the thread in question, and I do believe there may have been some misunderstanding on both sides about the level of interest and actually saying "I'll buy it for (whatever) price." At that point, I would consider that a virtual handshake and the commencement of transfer of $$ and parts can occur. "I'm interested" means just that. Yeah, you want to know more. I can see both sides to this situation in this case. An asking price upfront would have made it easier, however. Everyone has their opinions, though. I ain't hatin'.
For general purpose, you want to auction something off, go to Mecum or ebay or other venue. This one ain't it.
No, in the big scheme of things, it's not the end of the world for either party, but everyone playing in the same tent needs to follow the rules of the forum. It's just the fair thing to do.
Look, this was clearly an honest mistake. Check with your friend Brian, ask him if I do that all the time, or if he's ever seen me do it. He's a seller, ask him if I'm shifty. Who says you were first to respond? I list parts with no price? PARTS with an s? I listed one PART in 11 years by mistake. So to say PARTS is a blatant lie. I "admitted" I listed it w/o a price to gauge interest? That's
a lie Stephen. I never finished the listing. Then I couldn't delete it. So, you feel the need to make me look worse by lying? Were you not trying to force a quick buy yourself by jumping on it before any other members? Please post the email here where you said "I'll take it". There was never a deal. There was a quote. In 11 years, I have never, and would never, list something in Parts for Sale w/o a price to fish for it's value. I know it's value, I know it was priced low, mostly all my items are priced lower than my competitors. If I wanted to do that, I would just have posted it in General Discussion w/ pics, knowing that people would PM me asking about it. It's crazy to even suggest I'd do that, I could put it on one of my ebay ID's. There's got to be 100 people on here I could have PM'd to ask if they wanted to buy it. I said it was totally my mistake, I offered to make good on the deal. I apologized, I did what I could. But no, you're too big of a man to do that. I could have just said too bad, so sad. You want to trash me. Now....yesterday, Stephen said he moved on, he's not crying over spilled milk. Today, he posts this thread. Does it sound to you guys like he's moving on? Is this a guy you want to do business with? You guys better pray to God nothing goes wrong, or you're going to get this. Hey Stephen, you didn't smell any rot when you bought the set of plugs from me? You didn't smell any rot when you bought the second set of plugs from me at a discount, either? Whoopsie, huh? That's a sin of omission, you know. I make 1 mistake in 11 years, I own up to it, I try to fix it, and the 10 month newbie craps on me. You want to dance with me, my brother? You want me to post the snarky email here you sent me? Why don't you post it yourself, you must be very proud of that. There was a much better, more adult email you could have sent, that would have got the deal done. You know I checked the shipping and insurance to your zip today, just for fun. You remember how I mentioned the shipping? It's like $24.00 USPS Pri. actual w/insurance. Let's see...a TPP Chinese clone clutch is 139.00 + GA state tax, 5.35% or whatever and shipping. I've been really trying to lay off you here, because it was my error. I get it, you're angry, but hey...if you said you moved on yesterday, and then feel you have to hammer a mod trying to diffuse the situation and myself, AGAIN...well....that's really low in my opinion. You need to do some fact checking. If you've truly moved on I'm really happy for you. If you want to dance, just let me know....because I'll do you "pocketscientis" style, that's a promise! If you're going to lie about me, then I'm going to put some crazy lie here about you. Maybe I'll just start a new thread like this for you, how's that sound? Isn't there enough drama in the world right now, Stephen? What kind of person gets off lying about somebody that made an honest mistake, even when they offered to fix it, and apologized? I can see you're a last word kind of guy, so you can't "move on". If you were really an inherently good person, you would have this thread deleted, seeing as it's based on lies. It would be way cool if you did that, but I know you probably can't do it. You can get your very own "special" thread, Stephen. Is that what you would like? It will look like this TNSWT-BEWARE LYING MEMBER How's that? Anybody else has an opinion, be my guest to write freely. Yes, I messed up, but I don't deserve this.

Yes, I’ve moved on, but with that same thought it is important to keep the facts straight as this incident is dear to most everyone in the hobby—purchasing and selling parts. And my speech is not out of line as the subject is debated.
The reason there was no commitment to buy on my part is that there was never a firm price conveyed; and even when I did receive a picture of the part (later in the day on Jan 12th), that picture came with no price tag.
Several hours later I received another email from the seller telling me he is receiving a ton of private messages about the item, and because of that, he will relist the item after he investigates its worth.
I did make several purchases in the past from this seller without issue; armed with that information the seller knew I was a serious customer, so why did the seller continue to communicate and string me along all day on January 12th? I suspect we know that answer.
Come on, who would have committed to purchase under such circumstances, and let’s keep in mind I asked for a price with shipping to my zip code in my initial private message? That is how I have handled the few purchases I’ve made from members on this site. If that is wrong, then let’s hear the correct way.

Great, thanks for that Stephen, I appreciate your honesty. I'm not going to escalate this. No price offers were asked for, made, or taken on it. Ask around, you know who the heavy hitters are. It's still here. It will be going off site, and I'll give notice here. It's still not the whole story, but I'll stand on my 10 year perfect record. People can draw their own conclusions. But...if this thread keeps bouncing to the top, you will get your own very special thread, and everything will be written on your special thread. I'm done here.
