My battery on the 01 Bravada went dead. Not a big deal... change the battery, start it up and away we go.

Wrong. The radio LOC went on. IF I ever had a code, I sure don't have it now. I have tried and tried and the system is locked.

Any ideas, short of a dealer visit, how to reset this???

 

Pull the POS out and install an aftermarket head unit with some REAL sound reproduction capabilities. I have never seen anything about a Delco factory head unit to warrant it having such a device, and it is certainly more of an annoyance than it is worth.

 

Code or dealer only choices.

 

There are online places you can get the codes from. They cost 7 bucks at this one for example.

I had to get the one for my Astro van and I found a place online for $2.50 and had the code in a couple of hours.

There may be a label either on the radio itself but before that check the glovebox as they may have put it there or on the underside of the ashtray, it will be just a white label with a printed number on it.

 

i took the Bravada to the Chevrolet slash Oldsmobile dealer. They did replace the dead battery at a fair price compared to other stations and AAA.
The radio is now in Inop. To reset at this time, the key muist remain in the car for 1 hour and then the codes entered. I didn't have the time to leave it, but for $25 they will reset the radio properly and then give me the codes. As an aside, i also have a 01 Aurora with the same theft system... except.. in the Aurora there are no codes and it is all automatic... nothing to play around with...

 

If replacing the battery causes the vehicle to need codes then the dealership should have done that as part of the service. They shouldn't want $25 extra for it.

 

You are absolutely correct. Except, the theft system has 2 settings... LOK which is an easier a less timely fix for when the battery goes out or power failure and then the Inop which I have, cause I screwed around.... like the old saying, you play your gonna pay
