Probably a retainer screw holds the mirror assembly to an achor assembly, this screw would be near the base someplace. Then the anchor assembly would be removed with bolts from inside the door. Just my guess.

Door mirror dilemma

I read your post as I was wondering the same thing...how in the heck do I remove the mirror. Mine is aftermarket on the 62 F-85 and it has 1 tiny hole which I assumed to be the securing crew to the underlying anchor. However, after getting a magnifying glass and getting light in the hole I cannot see any indication to tell me what type of fastener is down in there. It's not Allen head nor either screwdriver style that I can tell!

Regardless, when I do get it off (and I will...I must) I assume I will find an anchor plate of some sort bolted to the door. I also assume I will need to remove the door panel to access the back side of those bolts, correct?

Or, can I simply clean and reuse the anchor and attach the new mirror?

Thanks much for help on what seems to be a simple problem but is not covered anywhere in my assembly manuals.
