2004 Bravada trans problem
2004 Bravada trans problem
Just bought a Final500 cheap as the guy said he was told the trans is shot. Story is he has owned the truck a couple years and had no warning or sounds driving home when the trans just disengaged. Motor fires right up and tach works as well as all the gauges. You can shift through the range but no movements. I haven't checked fluid levels as I just got home but have to figure when he had the truck towed to the service shop, they checked. I will look for any codes possibly thrown but is this familiar to anyone with this gen Bravada? I was thinking for it to just quit might be a solenoid or relay type issue that could shut it down as a safety thing.
Solution!
Most of the transmission problems associated with the Oldsmobile Bravada’s from 2002-2004 were because of the AWD motors. More specifically, the actuator situated inside the motor was faulty.
The problem was often one of the following…
- no AWD function, only the right rear tire has power
- feels like all 4 tires are flat, in reverse
- owners complained of various other issues related to their AWD (Smart Track) system.
This is the system with no control **** for changing the transmission mode from 2WD to 4WD to Auto like the Envoys and Trailblazers have.
The fix is simple. You can purchase a Dorman AWD motor part# 600904 from Rock Auto or Amazon.
Installation is easy with a hydraulic car lift.
The part is situated near the rear of the transmission, next to the transfer case.
It’s 4 bolts and one electrical plug in connector.
Takes 10 minutes. I recommend you change the transfer case fluid with the recommended fluid from GM. 2 small bottles (AC Delco).
