Need and E-brake Cable
Need and E-brake Cable
I had a short that blew out my emergency brake cable...now, where the hell do I find a replacement????????????????? And for a good price???????? Any help would be appreciated. Oh, its on a 69 Olds Delta 88.
First place to check is NAPA. You might be surprised what they can still get. Pretty sure there's a Fisher/Federated in H-burg too. If they don't have it, get ready to shell out the big bucks. Specialty vendors seem to think obsolete brake cables are gold plated.
My factory parts book shows you need grp 4.779, p/n 403418, cable- front, 43-1/2" long. This is the one from the parking brake pedal to the equalizer. Fits all 1969-70 88 & 98.
Center cable is 4.779 p/n 385857, 137" long. This goes from one rear cable to the other, thru the equalizer adjuster on the front cable. 65-70 all 88 except Jetaway transmission (2-speed P R N D L)
Rear cables are 4.779, 403082 same for each side. This is the one that connects to the parking brake mechanism on the rear brakes. 69-70 88 & 98.

Rockauto has 'em.
The longest one is $14, the shortest is $22, and the mid-length is $16.
Interesting $ per length trend...
Oh - the short one says only one remaining.
However, there is another brand to choose if that one is out of stock when you look.

Hey fellas, thanks for the info. This was one thing that I thought was going to be hard to find, expensive, and a long time waiting...apparently not. I called the NAPA just down the road and they said they could get them in about a day or two max. Not bad at all!! This is good news for broke me!
