Parking brake cable set up

Hi all,

It's been a while since posting as I have some family issues going on so the Olds has been on the back burner for a bit until I get things sorted.

Right, I have a question regarding the Parking brake which is driving me nuts on my 66 Dynamic 88. I've fitted new rear brake shoes and trying to adjust up the parking brake as its not holding. Anyway as you know the cables split into 2 parts at the adjuster position, these 2 cables going to the rear seem to be rubbing on the underside of the car floor when the brake is applied. I cannot see any brackets or clips missing, are there any in the first place? There is rubber tubing over the cable at certain points along the cable to avoid this rubbing, Is this correct? Would appreciate your advice as I cannot find anything in the manual with regards to this. Thank you.

The parking brake cable needs to be loosened, then the brake shoes adjusted and then the parking brake adjusted. Spray penetrating oil on the cable shielding particularly under the car where it bends exiting the interior of the car.

Brand new shoes may not hold the car in place until they are bedded to the drum after break-in. I adjust the cables so the pedal travels 1/2 - 2/3 of the way to the floor when fully engaged.

Read the parking brake adjustment process in the Chassis Service Manual. I follow that procedure and never have a problem.
