62 olds project brakes. Need advice
62 olds project brakes. Need advice
Working on my 62 super 88 4 door. Mater cylinder and booster are totaly wasted. Pic attached. Has anyone found a replacement or will work application for this? I am not currently interested in a disc conversion. Thanks for the help.
The Fusick catalog shows new master cylinders for '61-'63 88s, 98s, and Starfires for $149. Check their website and look for Catalog 19BC.
RockAuto shows a master cylinder for your car for $74.
Neither place shows a power brake booster, though. Fusick's catalog says "due to a lack of good rebuildable cores and other considerations, we are no longer offering to rebuilt power brake units for 1961-64 Oldsmobiles." They suggest looking in places like Hemmings for a rebuilding service.

We changed our '61 to an 8" double diaphragm booster and dual master cylinder. The wheelhouse had to be modified slightly for clearance. We had to extend the brake pedal mounting bracket back 1.25" and attach a 3/8" x 3/8" eyelet to hook into the new booster. We also had to get a distribution valve from a 60's GM car with dual master cylinder. The rear brakelines had to be changed from 3/16" to 1/4" for this conversion. This made the braking a lot better and much safer. I know that other people have done this type of conversion also. It is probably the least expensive way to go. If you have any questions let us know.
The pedal had to be moved back because the rod sticks into the car more than an original. You could extend things on the outside instead but this worked fine for us. I will PM our shop email so we can answer any other questions. Sorry it took a while to respond. I was on a trip to the Dominican Republic. Not a lot of big Oldsmobiles there!
Brakes
if you look at my post under toms1966rgtop you will read where I had my dads power booster sent to. I can attest to the workmanship since installing my dads, his linkage hung up and he siad if it was not for the brake upgrade things would have been worse than he imagined
