2" brake shoe for 2.5" rear drum? 1969, ninety-eight

I have been on usual sources, CarID, Kanters, local chain stores etc, to buy replacement parts for my 98. They are all showing a 2" X 11 brake shoe for the rear brake, but that is actually a 2.5" drum. I assume a 2" could be used, but I can think of a couple of reasons to prefer a 2.5" as spec'd. The only source I can find for a 2.5" shoe is O'Reilly house brand Brakebest (bonded) or NOS on e-bay which I suspect are rebuilds. NO problem finding the 2.75 X 11 for the front.

Does anyone have a recommendation or source?

If you have your old shoes have them relined. There are places here in WI that rivet material you old shoes.

The old shoes are in horrible shape. If I sandblast the rust, there wont be much left to line.

Why not use the O'Reilly's shoes? Is bonded the concern?

That is where I am leaning, but I have looked at opinions on these and they are all pretty lukewarm to negative. Might be my only option. This is a restoration of grandpa's old car and not a daily driver, so I need to keep that in mind.

Maybe bonded shoes could be relined as riveted by drilling holes? If yes, get the bonded and when they are worn have them relined as riveted. FWIW I'd get the bonded now and see how they last.

As maintenance check the brake lining regularly to protect the unobtainium old school drums.

Good luck!!!

Unfortunately it isn't. Brake parts for the 65-70 full size cars are tough to find these days.

Unless it is a mistake Carquest / Advance shows them in stock at my local store. Part number S261.
11 x 2 1/2 Cant tell by the picture if they are bonded or riveted but I don't see what difference it makes personally. I have never had an issue with bonded shoes. They also show the 11 x 2 as part number S262 They show the fronts as part number S260 but do not have them.

I can get the S260 (2.75") and the S272 (2"), but no S262 or S261 option. Might be a regional thing. I will probably just get the brakebest.

As mentioned above O'Reilly Auto has them. 11" x 2.5" (bonded).
I think you are better off having the right sized brake shoes (11" x 2.5" bonded) rather than 11" x 2" riveted.

Any luck finding breaks, or did you use the 2 inch? I’m looking for 2.5 inch.
