1964 Dynamic 88 brake drums

After removing front and rear rotors, 3 rotors were channeled via abuse by worn down shoes. Also, some springs were broken. I tried to locate new rotors and springs via rockauto. Nothing.

My interest is to keep the originality with drum.

What other model Oldsmobile, or other GM model rotor will work with my 64 Dynamic? Link for spring kit?

Are you referring to brake rotors or brake drums ? 1964's had brake drums and brake shoes.

These are DRUMS, not rotors. Correct drums for the 1963-64 full size cars are pretty much non-existent. Kanter sells Chinesium drums that are modified to fit. They will work but will not look correct. Craig at Mobileparts may be able to source old stock correct drums for you.

You can also look into getting yours trued if they are out of round causing a vibration. Score marks from past abuse don't really cause any issues as the brake shoes will wear into them.

Drums, yes. I was asking if there is other vehicles that I may be able to source the drums off of as well.

I am also looking for the springs for the brake job.

Thank you for the replies.

You can probably get a spring kit at any auto parts store, although it may have to be ordered.

Rockauto.com sells them for $3.92 (plus shipping). AC Delco part number 18K746,

Amazon has them, too, but for more money. But if you're a Prime member, shipping is free.

https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-18K749-Professional-Rear-Brake/dp/B000C9HNAY/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=AC+Delco+18K749&qid=1557543132&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-18K749-Professional-Rear-Brake/dp/B000C9HNAY/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=AC+Delco+18K749&qid=1557543132&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

Interestingly, rockauto says the kit is for the front brakes while Amazon says it's for the rear brakes. I guess that means it fits both.

Apparently, you cannot. Look again at that kit at RockAuto. It is only the hold down springs and pins. It does NOT include the more important retraction springs for the shoes. Normal auto parts store do not cover this car any more. I suggest Kanter as a source for more complete kits as well as shoes, or again, talk to Mobileparts on this site. These cars are not particularly popular to restore and given the few left on the road mainstream parts vendors no longer carry replacement parts.

But they do show some of these other springs, just not as part of a kit.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...de+spring,1864

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ring+kit,10420

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...ng+screw,10285

Also, O'Reilly shows this on their website, which they say is for '64 Dynamic 88, although it says "universal." But for $20, seems worth a shot. Compare the new parts in the kit to the old, and if they match up, use them.

It doesn't have the pins, but you can buy those in that kit from Rockauto.

Both of the links to springs you posted from RockAuto are only the springs at the bottom that hold the shoes against the adjuster. Again, NOT the retraction springs that are the important ones. As for a "universal" kit, when was the last time anything "universal" ever fit an Olds, especially one that was not an A-body? Lotsa luck with that.

Not necessarily. All five GM divisions used different chassis, axles, brakes, and suspension in the early 1960s. And where do you see brake spring kits for Bufords? And most of the brake shoes for Buicks are shown as 12", not 11". Again, these cars are not popular, few remain on the road, and mainstream parts suppliers do not service them.

As I've already pointed out twice in this thread, Kanter DOES list the complete brake kit for these cars. We can prolong this discussion, or the OP can just buy them from Kanter.

Which has 12 x 2.25 brakes in the front and 12 x 2.0 brakes in the back. The Olds has 11 x 2.5 in the front and 11 x 2.0 in the back.

How much longer do we have to do this?

Now to answer the first part of your question ;
1964 All except JetStar 1 and F-85 hub and drum assembly carries part number 382682 .
no other year or make carried that number .
My Hollander also confirms that 64 Olds fullsize drums were by themselves .

The absolute correct answer....

Our extremely well educated LEADER -- Joe Padavano -- is, of course, 100 % correct ....
Buicks use 12" , there are NO "universal" kits, and everyone that voices non-facts ARE
wasting a lot of time...

That said, this is Craig, Mobile Parts , 516 - 485 - 1935 , and I Have
N.O.S. U.S.A.made 1959 - 1964 Oldsmobile Full Size Front Drums (11" x 2 1/2")
--- and they fit NOTHING ELSE, period.
I have N.O.S. ++ Asbestos ++ Brake Shoes for the same application;
And I have the 100 % correct Brake Hardware Kits ---- and they ARE N.O.S. Only.

Always best to simply call me -- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935...

(When Joe P. Says something -- IT IS CORRECT...)

1963 Holiday 88 rear drum.

This is 63 Holiday 88 four door hardtop. One drum is loose. Is clean, previous poster said 64 are one year only guess that refers to rears? Another post said 59 - 64 Front interchange

59-64 Drums may interchange . 64 hub and drum assemblies will not . The 64 hubs are all by themselves .
Rear brake drums will not fit the front . They are too narrow .

The Jan 1972 printing of the parts book shows the same rear drum P/Ns for 1959 through 1970. Clearly, the early drums have been superseded (the original P/N for the 59-62 drums was 583112), so these are not the original part numbers, but apparently the 65-70 drums do work on the 59-64 cars. Interestingly they are different for RH and LH. P/N 398466 RH, 398467 LH.

The fronts, unfortunately, appear to be unique to the 1964 cars. P/N 382682, 1964 full size (except J88) only. Note that is for the hub and drum assembly. Olds didn't list the drum by itself for the front.

Joe P. Is, of course, correct again.
The FRONT Brake Drum (NOT Hub & Drum) 's application is 1959 - 1964 --- 11" x 2 1/2".
The REAR Brake Drum's application is 1959 - 1970 -- 11" x 2".
Oldsmobile ONLY ----- Nothing Else.
Yours, Craig.

If there were an easy interchange like this, it would already be common knowledge. Again, NOTHING interchanges.

1960s Chevy Trucks used light duty -- 11" x 2 3/4" ---- very very WRONG for you....
And heavy duty Trucks used -- 11 5/32" x 2 3/4" ---- very very WRONG for you.....

Bottom Line, as Joe P. Stated ---- NO.

I have the absolute factory correct hardware kits -- N.O.S. -- manufactured by companies that are now out of business...... But I don't have mountains of them....

So you can call me now and WIN -- or wait until I am out.....
Yours, Craig
