So, the folks at Right Stuff Detailing claim that their kit AFXWK01C will fit my 1972 Cutlass Supreme with 14 inch wheels.

Any advice?

Looks like I have a twin - welcome to the site.

I just did a disk brake conversion using The Right Stuff AFXMD paired with Raybestos calipers and they fit my SS1 14" wheels just fine.

Thanks dalilama, I've read that whole thread several times, and just repeated.
You say you used the right stuff AFXMD, and in the last post on Low cost A-body disk brakes it seems you used the low cost alternative.
Were they similiar in installation and results?
I'd rather use the low cost alternative if it means I don't have to fiqure stuff out next time I replace parts.

Not sure what you mean by similar since what I used was what Joe suggested. The wheel fitment comes down the caliper bracket and maybe the caliper itself. Since the kit you provided a link to has Right Stuff provided calipers I can't say for sure about fitment.

Not sure what wheels you have from the picture you provided. Have you determined if these are able to clear?

Sorry, I may have been a bit unclear in both my post and understanding.
I saw AFX.... in yor reply and jumped to the wrong conclusion that you used the whole kit.

AFXMD in Joe's suggested list & the complete kit AFXWK01C from Right Stuff (that they say fits 14 inch wheels or larger) both use the same spindles- so all good.

BTW- That whole kit is .

Right stuff sells a complete line set for 90 at summit.


So I'm at the basic question is will AFXWK01C clear my wheels, like Right Stuff says ?

The worst case is you may need to grind a bit, but if they are saying it will fit then that's a pretty good start.

Also note that you will need a proportioning valve to replace your distribution block. The new brake lines must support the proper routing (MC mounted or frame mounted) and check to make sure you have a master cylinder that support disk/drum. I can tell you that if you need to put in a new rear brake line from the front to back be prepared for a fun time...

Thanks for the guidance, I'm glad I'm getting spindles that fit yours.

Just ordered the whole shooting match, lines and all.

I knew I would have to do the line to the rear an am not excited.
The line kit from right stuff locates the proportioner at the master Cylinder, which I don't like.
I've already installed a stock Olds disk/drum Master Cylinder on the booster.

These cars came from the factory with disc brakes and 14" wheels.

You never know what is coming in a kit and I was just trying to see if anyone had used that one in particular.

Dalilamas replies, (Thanks!), were enough to discover some cross references and gave me some confidence to order.

The Right Stuff kit APPEARS to use repros of the stock caliper brackets and calipers. Most other kits use the same Chinesium parts but claim 14" wheels don't fit. I've asked several of these vendors why they say that, and bottom line is that they find it easier to say "use 15s" than it is to try to educate customers on the differences between disc brake and non-disc brake 14" wheels. I suspect that ALL of the aftermarket kits that use the stock type brackets and 10.75" rotors will clear 14" wheels.

As for this particular kit, I've never found it financially advantageous to buy heavy cast iron rotors and calipers on line. I've used the Right Stuff mini kit that includes the spindles, caliper brackets, and splash shields. I buy the heavy rotors and calipers locally and shave shipping.

Thanks for the help and advice.
Kit workred like a charm, super inclusive and complete.
The only thing I needed to add was two cotter pins.

I did decide to replace lines, ball joints, master cylinder and proportioning valve.
The pre bent lines could not have been done better. It took 4 hours too get my old lines removed and about an hour to install the new lines and prop valve.

Good news - I assume your 14" wheels cleared or you would not have been a happy camper.

Curious - where did you mount the prop valve? Under the MC or on the frame?

Yes, wheels fit & prop valve is under master cylinder.
Not real happy with the prop valve location but I'll get over it.
