Who made 70 442 front calipers?
Hi Guys,
Who made the front calipers on 70 442s? I looked thru the Chassis Service Manual and I don't see any venodor name. Was it Bendix...or AC Delco? If you know.....let me know.
thanks,
bob

Could be either, but I think you'll find most came with D-M brakes by then. Bendix were usually found only on the full-size car.
It was Delco-Moraine Brake Division back then. AC-Delco wasn't even in the picture.
AC supplied filters and ignition parts, Delco-Remy was electrical and ignition, Delco-Packard was wiring, Delco-Moraine was brakes, Delco Appliance did heating and A/C.
And AC-Delco is... a mess.

Thanks for the info guys. Is there a visual difference between the Bendix and the Delco Moraine calipers? Reason I ask is I need to redo the front brakes no my 70W beater and I see the major brake manufacturers offer what's called "fully loaded" calipers. Basically refurbed calipers with all new hardware including pads....and they're cheap. My plan is to remove my original calipers and install new loaded calipers and new rotors. I'll restore my originals and put them away for the day it stops being a daily driver and gets a full resto. But I'd like to buy fully loaded calipers that look closest to the originals. I've looked at the pics of loaded calipers online and they're not the greatest pics. So if I knew which brand were on my car now (I've got pics of mine but don't know the manufacturer) I can be pretty certain the fully loaded calipers from the same manufacturer would be the same.
