Stiff pedal opinions
Stiff pedal opinions
Hi guys. Just bought my 58 Super 88. It pretty much has no brakes. Pedal is very hard wether the car is running or not. The guy I bought it from says it’s the wheel cylinders but my thought is it must be the booster is bad. I would love to hear the opinions on his.
Could be either or both .
The important thing is , if the brake system hasn't been properly serviced recently .
Then all four drums should be removed , the wheel cylinders re-built or replaced .
Brake shoes should be replaced if worn more than 50 percent . The drums must be machined or replaced if new shoes are installed . Brake hoses should be replaced if they look old .
The brake booster is a Bendix Tredle-Vac unit . The master cylinder is part of the booster unit , and the unit must be re-built .

I agree with Charlie.
Take all 4 drums off and inspect. Could be a broken spring hung up in between the shoe and drum, wheel cylinder pin/s not retracting completely, or the brake booster.
