Parking brake adjustment 🤔

I followed this procedure to adjust the parking brake on my '72 Supreme, but the CSM says nothing about having the car in neutral. Seems to me that's a given since you can't rotate the wheels in park. Am I right?

Also, once I was finished, I started it up and applied the parking brake. When I put it in drive or reverse, the car rolled. Should the parking brake hold when in gear, or is it supposed to roll?

If the car rolls in gear, the adjustment is not correct.

So if I adjust it to stop the car from rolling in gear, then it's not according to the CSM. As it says, once correctly adjusted, you should just be able to rotate the wheel in the rearward direction, but it should not rotate in the forward direction, and that's how I did it. And it is supposed to be in neutral when adjusting, correct?

The CSM talks about adjustment with the pedal at exactly three clicks depressed with the trans in neutral with the rear tires off the ground.

I'm talking about what happens with the e-brake pedal fully depressed and the car on the ground with the trans in gear. FYI, I usually press the brake pedal and hold it while then pressing the e-brake pedal.

So should I adjust just enough to keep the car from rolling?

That's how I do it. Again, I assume you are "testing" the car with the pedal depressed as far as it goes, right?

Correct..pedal depressed as far as it goes. Also, would the service brake being out of adjustment affect the parking brake working correctly?

Absolutely. You must adjust the brakes properly before adjusting the e-brake cable.

Made a slight adjustment to my service brakes and the parking brake works as it should.

Thanks for the help Joe 👍😊
