master cylinder issues

hi everyone,
removed my master cylinder since I am re-doing whole brake system,if you look at the picture you can see my problem. is this normal?? I tried to remove what seems to be the plunger, but this thing is seized good. was possibly wondering about converting to a dual reservoir if I cant fix this. thanks in advance, gus

Yup your MC is no jueno... I'd change the power booster also. The conversion is easy to a dual res.

This is why you need a Chassis Service Manual. In 1962, the master cylinder piston for the Delco Morraine M/C for power brakes was part of the BOOSTER. It is not "stuck", it's made that way. The booster and M/C need to be rebuilt as a unit. This thread from 2014 covers the same issue. You can get a rebuild kit for the M/C here. The rebuild kit for the booster is here. Here's a thread on H.A.M.B. about changing the booster and M/C.

My Pm to Joe was due to the fact after looking at your car and where the fender well is, I needed a higher authority. Apparently not as easy as an A body.

thank you for the info, I did not know that. needless to say, it all needs to be rebuilt. I decided to go with a dual reservoir unit from speedway, never saw a setup like that!!!

I installed a universal 8 inch dual diaphragm booster on my 63 olds 88. I had to modify the brake light switch
