Hydro boost brakes
Hydro boost brakes
Any one using a hydro boost system on their Olds? If so, please explain who's and what your using? I know there are Wilwood kits out there but I was wondering if someone has come up with something less expensive?
Maybe someone is using something else for brake assist? Just checking the waters out there....
Thanks,Reggie

You can just get these from diesel vehicles in the junkyard for a reasonable price.
You can then mess around with repainting, chrome plating, new hoses, etc. as much or as little as you'd like.

The aftermarket hydroboost is the same one that GM used on every one-ton pickup and on diesel Oldsmobiles. You'll need to fabricate a bracket to mount it to the firewall, but you can then bolt up your regular master cylinder. Get the Saginaw PS pump from the truck as well - it will bolt to the Olds PS pump brackets. You will likely need custom hoses, as the truck ones are likely too long.
I've been thinking about doing a PS + hydroboost setup for one of my other cars. Rather than buying a new aftermarket setup you might consider a remanufactured system. I'd go looking for a core at the parts yard, as the core charge for the reman units can be pretty high. Look at Astro vans and 3/4 ton trucks.
Not sure I understand. The 80 GMC was a diesel so all the hydro boost was stock GM. The Wilwood kit is pretty common as an upgrade when adding 4 wheel disc brakes. Not sure what else to say other than one never has to worry about low vacuum and high lift cams.
Oldsmobile used hydroboost on diesel powered cars from the factory. I pulled one off a diesel Cutlass in a wrecking yard years ago. For that matter, you can probably use the hoses for one of these on a hydroboost in an earlier car. RockAuto sells rebuilt hydrobooster units and hoses for these applications.

I'll check into that Joe... Thanks
