Hi guys, got a new question for ya.

Ever since I rebuilt the front end on my '65 Delta, occasionally my brakes will make a low moaning sound and the peddle will vibrate very lightly as I'm braking at low speeds.

It happens most often when making a sharp turn in either direction, or when turning and braking at very low speeds. It can happen at normal speeds when I am applying very light peddle pressure although the moan is very quiet in those cases.

When i took the rotors off I cleaned them with brake cleaner before I put them back on, and reassembled and torqued everything to spec...

I've noticed the brake fluid in my reservoir is a dark brown color...I don't know what color its supposed to be but it seems bad.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be from what I'm describing? The moan sounds like it is caused by friction.

A moaning disc brake is almost always a vibration and can be caused by lots of things. I assume you added the disc brakes to this car. It can be caused by caliper brackets that aren't strong enough, a caliper that is a little loose on the mounting bolts, brake pads that don't have and insulator of some sort between them and the caliper, rotors that aren't machined properly, hard spots on the rotors or it can just be the brand of pads.
This problem can be a real PITA to find.
And the brake fluid should be clear if it's brown it's probably full of rust and your system needs cleaned.

 

Sometimes a low moaning of the disc brakes at low speed and pedal pressure is normal. If your getting a pedal vibration at higher speeds and heavy brake pressure, it's probably a warped rotor/s.

On the fluid, you can remove most of your fluid from the reservoir, refill, and bleed the brakes until you see clear fluid come out at all 4 sides. Be careful not to run the reservoir dry so keep adding fluid as needed.
