caliper bolt slide question.

I'm putting on new calipers and I have a question about the bolt slides.
Does the bolt itself slide in the sleeve for caliper adjustment or does the slide itself move in the caliper. Should I lube the slide when I put it in the caliper or just tap it in place dry. Sorry if it's a dumb question, but this where I come to learn. Barb.

Lube it with white lithium grease...and assemble.

I always pull the sleeves out and use white lithium like yellowstatue said. The caliper slides on the sleeve. The sleeve does not slide on the bolt. Also grease the outboard side of the pin, It does not have a sleeve on that side.

I use silicone grease, not petroleum-based grease, on these parts to avoid damaging the rubber o-rings.

I agree with Joe, though ANY grease is better than none.
I grease EVERYTHING. If you want it to come apart easily next time then anti-seize or any sort of lube on the threads is a good idea. Silicone RTV where the pads touch the calipers helps avoid squealing later also.
