i have a 1990 88, when i hit the brakes, either lightly or a little hard, there is a clicking noise. is it my rotors or just my brakes getting low?

Unfortunately, it could be a lot of things - brake pads, warped rotor, caliper mounting hardware, loose caliper, wheel bearing, or even CV joint. We'll need more info.

Possibly the the built in indicators to alert the user that the pads are worn down too much. If you don't know about brakes, get someone that does to show you or have a shop check them. Brakes are serious safety items my friend, you need to look into this.

That's a good point, though most of these "telltales" emit a very annoying screech. Usually it starts off very low in volume but will increase as the pads continue to wear. The good news is that the telltale is set up to be really annoying long before the pads are completely worn out.
