Brake Booster Interchange
Brake Booster Interchange
Does anybody have any experience with brake booster interchange between a 67 A-Body and a 68 A-Body? Been looking for a 67 disc brake booster with no luck but did find a 68 disc brake booster. Before I make the deal I need to make sure they will interchange. Thanks in advance.

Well Mike, I could be wrong on this but I'm pretty sure that there's no difference between a PDB + a PB booster. There is a difference between a 67 + a later booster. The big thing with a 1967 A booster is the check valve is straight and requires a much larger hole than a later booster. I put a later new I think 1968-72? booster on my 67 GS 400 because It was cheaper and easier than sending mine out. It may have been a 67 new booster I used, it was a while back. Then I stuffed a rag in the hole and enlarged it to the 67 size check valve size hole with a Dremel so it would look original. I know that doesn't answer your question, but it's food for thought.

Mike - Like Frank said above, the Olds boosters changed to the smaller hole/right angle check valve after 67. Also, I'm of the same opinion that there's no difference b/n a power drum booster and the power disc booster...it's the difference in the master cylinders that made them assign a different two letter code to the overall assembly. I have a real nice '67 booster here (from a '67 drum brake Olds wagon) and was talking to some guy about (not on this site) it but he seems to have "disappeared".
I have four '70-2 boosters here (original Olds and Buick/GM and I know what cars they're from since I removed them myself) and they all have the smaller check valve hole (and used the right angle check valves). I can easily check some original '68 Olds boosters as well.
