Booster problems

I've read multiple comments about how difficult it is to get at the 4 nuts that hold the PB booster to the firewall and they're all true! My issue is a little different. 3 of the nuts cam off with just a little coaxing. The 4th however is rounded off. It is the bottom inside one - probably the hardest to get at because of everything around it, it's almost impossible to reach. Can anyone give me some advice on how to get it off? I'm not concerned about saving the booster, it's toast.

Thanks

Of COURSE it is...

The problem here is that the studs are part of the pedal support assembly, so if you damage that stud, you're looking at more work to fix it.

If you can reach it, a Dremmel tool with one of the small cutoff wheels might enable you to cut the nut with minimal damage to the stud. Run a die over the stud once you get the booster off.

Joe,

Thanks for the good advice. I will try it this weekend. Since I'm not concerned about saving the booster, I was wondering about just taking a sawzall to the bracket itself? That would give me room to get at the stud.

Yes, that would work, assuming you can get access to cut the bracket.

I have had great luck with Irwin's Bolt-Grip sockets. They do work. use a ratchet, with them or a wrench in tight spots

Rustbucket2,

On the way home last night, I stopped and bought the socket set you suggested. Got the socket on the nut, applied an open end wrench and.. the nut turned right off! Very impressive. I would highly recommend this set for everyone working on a car. Thanks for the great tip.

Your welcome. They make them in metric too, sometimes if the head is real bad, the metric will fit better on a standard size
