71 cutlass s front brakes

Hi, I have a 71 cutlass s with all drum brakes. I want to change the front to disc. Does anyone know if the spindles are the same from a drum to disc?

spindles are different between disc and drums.
any 69/72 "A" body GM car with disc is what you need, the complete set up.

i just did the front conversion on my 72. the spindles r not the same. hopefully u dont have headers on ur car because u will have to relocate the proportioning valve it u do. which also means u have to make new front brake lines. it was a nightmare if u ask me. but after hours of jacking up the motor, removing headers, running new lines, ect., ect., ect. its all done and it was worth the headache. the car stops much much better. good luck with ur change over!!! if u run into a snag i can probably help u through it considering i hit every roadblock in the book. so if u need help dont be afraid to ask, cuz thats what this forum is for.

Thanks a lot you guys for the quick response, so in a nutshell, the easiest way to convert the front to disc is to find another car with disc(69-72 A body) and swap over, I don't think i will run headers, at least not right now, I have seen kits available to swap to disc for around $600, but don't seem to come with spindles unless you wanted a 2" drop, so that's why i figured maybe the spindles are the same. good to know, thanks again guys.

There are kits out there so you can use your drum brake spindels. Check on some of the chevelle forums. You will have to add proportional valve, the one with your drum set up won't work. Jkaz

Also, the drum spindles can be turned into disk brake spindles with some very simple machining:
