'66 Starfire No Brakes
I have '66 Starfire. When I purchased the car, All it came with was the spindle, and the brake drums. That's it. I need to come up with the rest of the brakes. Discs seem to be out of the question. I can't find any info on that conversion, so I am going to have to find a donor car to take the brakes off of. Since Starfires are fairly hard to come by, is there anyother model that I can steal the brake system off of?
Any 1965-69 drum brake equipped big Olds will have what you need, and all 59-69 drum brake big Olds use the same brake linings, drums and wheel cylinders. Ninety Eights have wider rear brake linings and drums but they will fit nicely on your Starfire for a little extra braking.
If you want disc brakes, 67-70 big car disc brake stuff will bolt right up, but it's not common and service parts (rotors, calipers etc) are almost non-existent.
Mike Pemberton in NV can probably hook you up with a front disc setup for your car. You may have to send him a pair of spindles he can machine to accept the discs, but his conversions use off the shelf GM replacement parts. www.discbrakemike.com
