No anti-rattle clips...if your retaining rod is rattling, then put a little bit of medium bodied seam sealer at the points where it passes through the caliper halves...

1967 - 1968 Olds 442 Disc Brake

I have some N.O.S. +++ASBESTOS+++ pads -- the ol' "D3"s -- for this application -- and you must use asbestos, which is illegal in the United States for the last 17 years.....

It is not illegal for us to transact on it -- it falls under some category that they are N.O.S. ---- no company would risk their license making them today.........

Call me ---- Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935......
(I even have a few sets of DELCO remaining, if you REALLY CARE!!!!!!)

+++ ASBESTOS +++ Pads

You are going to cry when you rip the smithareens out of those rotors with new friction material pads from current cheezy places -- but that's all they can provide....
Asbestos pads have been illegal now because "we're killing the ozone layer -- E.P.A.", but it's not illegal for us to transact on it -- it falls under the guidelines of N.O.S. -- manufactured prior to the guidelines.

Ask anyone who has a brain about how much better the ASBESTOS is than this new crap -- and you'll be happy I have them -- and they're not pricey...........
$49 for one set / $ 90 for two sets.............
and I have a few last sets of +++ DELCO +++ ------ $ 79 / set......

Asbestos in brake pads and shoes have been determined not to be a major health issue, since the asbestos fibers are broken down from the braking action. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't take precautions, but it does mean that you don't face the dangers like the people that worked in the manufacturing plants making these pads and shoes.
As for the effect of the new lining material on old rotors, what was said is absolutely correct. The new materials will not stop the car as effectively, and they will also wear out your rotors. I have a 1969 Cadillac, that I use the asbestos pads on for one major reason. A replacement rotor is $400+, and very difficult to find unless you are willing to step up to pay the asking price.

I agree. Asbestos is unquestionably kinder to your rotors, stops well, and when ground into brake dust is relatively harmless, as the mesothelioma danger in asbestos is in the long, spikey fiber shape (on a microscopic level), which is worn down as the pads wear, so that the dust produced is not long and spikey.

That doesn't mean you should lean into your wheel well and blow a huge cloud of dust into your face, like we all used to do , but it does mean that "brake men" in garages didn't drop like flies from mesothelioma the way asbestos factory workers, shipyard workers, and maritime engineering crews did.

Asbestos Pads, Part 2

Both comments are on the money regarding Asbestos Pads -- and that's why people / newbies / my regular customers "kill" for me to keep coming up with N.O.S. Asbestos pads for our old cars.....

And to "Junkman" -- I, too, have a 1969 Caddy (as well as a '66, '67, and '68) and I have a couple last sets of Asbestos Pads I can sell for them -- also just $ 49 / set!!!!! And don't dare spend $ 400 + for Front Rotors -- that is indeed insane -- I have extras to sell @ $ 175. each........

Call me anytime, Craig -- 516 - 485 - 1935, New York............

Has nothing to do with ozone. That's Freon-12 and other hydrofluorocarbons. It's outlawed because of the risk of mesothelioma and other asbestos fiber-related diseases. I do asbestos training and respirator fit testing as part of my job. Doesn't mean I always agree with EPA/OSHA/NIOSH rules and regs as I think many of them are overreaching and have contributed to the decline of American industry, but I have to train people.

But yeah, if I can find asbestos or semi-metallic brake shoes, I grab them.
