1969 cutlass parking brake lever issue

Hi,

I am replacing the parking brake strut + spring and parking brake lever that are missing on my 69 cutlass.

The way to put the strut + spring seems quite obvious but I don't understand how the lever fits and how it pivots to push the secondary shoe
I've bou
ght the same parts as those shown in the manual
( fig 5-31 , page 5-14 ).

There are "slots" in the lever but I don't know where they go.

Does the "no spring side" of the strut engage in the lever or the brake shoe, etc ?

Thanks for your assistance.
